i have personally found that conjunctions are too similar - to the point that i didn't like it because we were too similar.

trines on the other hand I find to be more favourable.

thoughts?

Hmm. That's interesting 'cause I have Moon conjunct Moon with a guy and we ARE very similar. I don't like it, but I do... at the same time one of our Psych/Eros combinations are Capricorn/Cancer so we are opposites in ways too.

I don't like trines because there's no spark in them. At least with a conjunction I think both people NOTICE the similarity. Trines seem to be things that are taken for granted because they've always been there.

For me it depends.

How is the conjuncted planet aspected natally?
What kind of other synastric aspects are there to the conjunction?

I don`t even view conjunctions as aspects.

like it is described here:

"We are going to start by looking at the conjunction which, strictly speaking, does not really qualify as an aspect at all. The conjunction signifies unity, undifferentiated energy, the merging of two or more planets in such a way that they always operate simultaneously. Whether or not the planets concerned are inherently sympathetic to each other, they are irrevocably joined together."
http://www.astro.com/mtp/mtpt62_e.htm

And that`s not always fun, though having said that I am very much a conjunction-girl esp. in relationships. lol

It`s easy to see why. The ruler of my 7th house is Mercury in FIRST house, conjunct SUN.
I need or am attracted to my "mirror" ,(sounds more narcistic than I actually am. lol), and the conjunction is just THE aspect for that kind of idenitification/ reflecting that is apparently written into my chart.

I also think trines are a bit too soft and complacent, and if in excess, can bring inactivity.

But where I really like it is if they relax a challenging aspect.

If my Sun for example was opposing Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, I`d very much like myself some trines to Sun in synastry, as the conjunction in this case woudl trigger all these squares as well.
Makes for a very intense connection, lots of growth potential, but probably too exhausting to make it work in a day-to-day- relationship.

I think the preference might have more to do with the natal charts than a general meaning of aspects.

It depends on the planets involved. I would love to experience Moon conjunct Venus, but the signs for either planets in my chart would make things dry or ugly.

I do like trines though. Things just fall into place without pressure or too much work. The conjunction is like the bipolar aspect for me because it swings from amazing to absolutely horrible depending on the planets, of course.

I think Grand trines are the best I have ever experienced in a synastry. They were involving moon, mercury and venus. It felt like a cocoon as someone said here. It was like this is our world, our reality that we share and it felt really warm and safe.

I think trines are so underestimated.
My chart is full of squares and yet I really like some good trines, and I feel them strongly in synastry.

Conjunctions can go either way.. they're not always as good and fun as they're thought to be. I really like Dawn Bodrogi's approach to conjunctions, she says they are erratic and quite unpredictable, with an Aries vibe. Unless we're talking about the Moon and Venus, that's pretty sweet; but all in all conjunctions are *hard* aspects and are often quite problematic because the two planets struggle to dominate.

Trines are the cream of the crop!
They represent the true comfort zones in relationships. But some trines do not set you up for automatic attraction. i.e. VE 120 MR, this is a terrific trine for any kind of relationship and is great for working relationships too. But it will not draw you together to benefit from the influence, something else - like a conjunction, another trine, or square must be influencing you too.

Conjunctions and oppositions both depend on the planets being aspected - to experience the benefits. Oppositions require both parties to compromise from time to time, in order to get the full benefit of the aspect influence. i.e. VE 180 UR or MR 180 SA.

Conjunctions are the power players. Again, it depends on the planets being aspected, to gain benefit. Trines makes the couple unimposing and lucky with others. Conjunctions are associated with couples not afraid to assort themselves. And with the right planets involved - can be fortunate in their actions with others. i.e. S 0 JP, MR 0 JP &, JP 0 UR.

Personally conjunctions are less predictable, some people think because lots of conjunctions means smooth sailing not all the time.A conjunction can be one minute like a trine then the next like a square/opposition.

Trines are more predictable than a conjunction imo.

A trine between Moons* feels so good. I guess it depends on the planets involved.

Between same planets, depending on the planet, yes conjunctions are too similar. Like there's always competition if its Sun conjunct Sun or Mars conjunct Mars. I liked Moon conjunct Moon.

However, if it's different planets, say, Sun conjunct Moon vs Sun trine Moon, I'll take the conjunction.

Conjunctions are more intense and definitely lead to a deeper connection. For example, Sun conjunct moon is going to lead to a much more intense and nourishing feeling than is Sun trine moon.

It also depends on the planets involved, though. For example Sun conjunct venus is nice, whereas sun conjunct saturn is not very nice. Sun trine saturn is nice, though (if it's not a double-whammy).

I personally like conjunctions more. Usually when I exprience trines the vibes I have with that person is boring.

Too be perfectly honest I really do enjoy most conjunctions. Like Ceridwen, I’ve got a Sagittarius rising, a Sag stellium (with a Capricorn Sun), and the Dsc ruler Mercury also in Sag (It’s in the 12th but conjunct the Asc). And when people conjoin my Sag planets with the Sun, the Moon, Venus, Mars or Mercury that really attracts me to a person. Although I’m not sure how I’d handle a Sag Saturn conjunct one of my planets? Conjunctions really change depending on the nature of the planets involved. I’d imagine Mars/Saturn could be something of a downer, compared to something like Venus/Asc. Noticed that I also love conjunctions to my Leo Mars which rules my Aries 5th house. My best female friend had her Sun conjunct my Mars in Leo

And I just wanna say that I think Ceridwen has a point about enjoying having a soft aspect relieving a hard natal aspect through synastry. Natally I’ve got a Venus/Jupiter opposition (It’s is trine/sextiled by my Saturn which really helps keep me on even keel) and when another planet in someone else’s chart comes along and trines Venus, for instance, it gives me a type of release. Actually, I love the relief and ease that comes from having a few trines in synastry, same with sextiles, as long as there is a nice balance of other types of aspects there. No relationship is an island where you can only have one type of aspect. And in real life there’s just about always a mix going on. So yeah, I don’t see the need to choose between trines or conjunctions because I’ll inevitably get both from the same person anyway.

Squares are the aspects that I find the most draining if there are too many of them in synastry. A couple is okay because they generate a type of spark, and activity. They really make you work HARD though. Too many over time would be uncomfortable for me. That being said my natal chart is not very ‘square’ (as in I only have one square in my chart involving the major planets, between Mars and Uranus, and it’s at wide 5 degree orb) which I feel explains why I regard the aspect with a good deal of caution. Some people actually enjoy the hectic energy of lots of squares… Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher had the worst synastry I’d ever seen, with practically everything square everything, and they stayed together for 7 years. Both have ‘hard’ natal charts.

I agree. I've had better (as I define better...which is, "more comfy") experiences with trines than conjunctions.

Yes, I know, trines are boring and make you lazy and complacent...I've heard all the warnings, but I maintain my right to lavish in luxury and enjoy a good solid trine now and then!

Conjunctions also have their place, but have required, in my experience, a longer cultivation period, where that struggle for dominance is either sorted out or given up because both parties are exhausted from it.

Although moon conjunct Mars is inherently dysfunctional, in my experience.

Conjunctions make me happy. I love me and wish there were two of me so we could date. Trines are good too, but conjunctions, no matter where or what they are tend to make me shine.

Honestly, if I did have conjunctions with my girlfriend our relationship would be too rocky. They are the centerboard/keel of our relationship. She has complicated squares.

I have Sun cj Venus, Mercury cj Venus, Venus cj Jupiter, Jupiter cj Neptune, Palls cj Sun and Vesta cj North Node. I also have 8 trines with her.

Since conjunctions are energies operating in the same direction, this might be boring if you have a strong Uranus or a need for independence. Trines would be more favorable in your case, I agree.

I think its all about preferences.

The conjunct aspects do feel a lot more "urgent" than the other aspects. And thus more popular.

The square aspects are also intense. But there is likely to be some antagonism therein.

The sextile aspects are not popular. Maybe because one has to "call" upon their energy etc.

Its like meeting the guy/girl of your dreams a couple of times. And then only upon the 10th time do you "click" etc.

The trine aspects are the easiest and effortless. There is often not enough spark or friction etc. for people to recognize the connection.

Personally, I prefer sextile Venus/Mars , Moon/Moon , Moon/Sun aspects on everything.

There is something about the sextile connection that lingers on for me.

I have dated more Moon/Moon sextile people than trines. And the added sextile aspects between my Mars and my SO's Mars, does contribute to the sexual attraction.

I don't think I've had a lot of conjunctions honestly. I had a venus-pluto conjunction but the guy had a Venus-Pluto conjunction himself so I don't think he felt it. Because my Sun, Moon, Mercury is a Pisces and people around my age have Pluto in Scorpio, I nearly trine everyone in my age group's Pluto with all three of these planets and I can't feel the connection.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you don't already have that trine/conjunction in your own birth chart, you'll be able to feel it more readily. And then I think depending what the aspect is, it could be easier or harder to work with. If it's Venus-Pluto conjunct, brace yourself lol. And maybe Venus-Pluto trine might be a little easier on you. But if it's Sun-Moon conjunct, well that just sounds lovely.

My boyfriend's 5th/8th house ruler Mercury conjuncts my Sun/Moon/Mercury stellium in my 8th house. It's like he just gets me. I like that conjunction a lot.

As a guy, I've experienced Sun conjunct my Moon and another with Mars conjunct my Venus. Top shelf aspects you would think. But too overpowering for my taste. Maybe if I were Sun or I were Mars... or if I were the female...

I love the natural ease and flow of trines. Conjunctions depend on the planets involved. At my birth there was a Grand Trine (in Fire signs) plus 2 other trines in Air. My favorite romantic synastry comparison is a powerful mix of pattern completion trines, a Wedge, double sextile Wing, T-square, and oppositions.
