Paul Westran had a very extensive research about the synastric aspects, made by secondary progressions.
http://www.positiveastrology.com/archivearticles.asp

Now I was wondering if there was a similiar convincing thing happening with solar arcs.
I know that they are usally not used with synastry, but really, why not?

If they depict my current development, then this would also show in the way I interact with others.

For solar arcs only dynamic aspects are being used, conjunction, square, opposition, as these show the most dramatic significant lifechanging impact.
They show profound effect on our lives (as usually meeting a relationship partner would do too).

However, the fact that we use only the challenging aspects with them, might be due to the preference of astrologers who use solar arcs extensely like Ebertin did or Noel Tyl or Basil Fearrington, for these 4th (or even 8th) harmonic aspects BECAUSE of them showing the "major issues" or lifechanging events.

Personally I think trines might still be just as valid in predictive astrology than in natal one. just they are so soft and harmonious and subtle that they might not be noticed as much and not leading to overwhelming experiences, but rather act as a supporting cuddling cushion in the background, or underneath.

However, my question is simply: were there strong aspects between solar arc positions and natal planets when you met your significant other or when there was something significant happening in a relation to another person?

The orb would be 1 degree (or actually 30 minutes before and after exactness) in this instance (as this is valid for a whole year), and yes, I would prefer to see some conjunctions, oppositions and squares for the most dramatic experiences.

Since the solar arcs are valid for a whole year, maybe a peek at the transits would be enlightening too, something transiting that was setting off a solar arc aspect.

Let me give you an example.

This guy had a tremendous lifedeciding impact on me, though he never even had awareness of this.
It did not only start me on my spiritual journey, and at one time also leading right into the "dark night of the soul", but it stirred my creativity and last but not least led into developing a heavily onesided (he was gay anyway), but nevertheless obsessive, compulsive, very long lasting crush on him.

My personal directions/ solar arc aspects at this time were:

° sa Mars conjunct n Venus/Mars-mp

° sa Neptune conjunct n Sun and n Mercury
° sa NN conjunct n Sun and n Mercury
° sa Jupiter square n Sun and N Mercury

° sa Venus conjunct n Avx and n Sun/Moon-mp

° sa IC conjunct n Chiron
(my paternal grandfather had died the year before)

° sa MC square n Vertex and n Sun/Moon-mp

° sa Uranus square n Moon (applying one degree)

As for transits setting something off:

° Tr Mars conjunct sa Mars and n Venus/Mars-mp (3 degres applying - so valid for the weeks after seeing him)

° Tr Uranus conjunct n Venus exact
° Tr Uranus square n MC exact

° Tr Neptune conjunct sa Sun and sa Mercury (1 degree sep)

° Tr Saturn opposite n Saturn exact

° Tr Sun conjunct sa Venus conjunct n Avx conjunct n Sun/Moon-mp (1 degree)

° Tr Venus opposite sa Saturn exactand square n Uranus (1)

° Tr NN square sa Uranus exact and conjunct n Moon (1)
° Tr Pluto conjunct sa Uranus (1) and square n Moon exact

As you can probably easily see the timeframe for extreme emotional experiences was simply "ripe"; especially that transiting Pluto-Nodes-square setting off sa Uranus = my n Moon looks ominous.

As for why it had to be THIS man, triggering the experiences, the synastric solar arc connections were these (the highlights only of course):

° his sa Neptune conjunct my n Neptune: 0°03a
° his sa Neptune conjunct my n NN: 0°16 a
(9 Sagittarius)

° his sa Saturn square my n ASC: 0°05 a
7 Pisces - Sagittarius)

° his sa ASC conjunct my n IC: 0°04a
(5 Aries)

° his sa Chiron conjunct my n IC: 0°57s
(so already in the past, but

° his sa Chiron square my n Venus: 0°10a

° not using asteroids so much in this, but it is interesting that his sa Moon was conjunct my n Karma.

° his sa Pluto conjunct my n MC: 0°03 s

° his sa Pluto square my n Venus: 1°05 a
while not yet in play, it would become very significant over the following year, which is very apt; if I have ever experienced Venus-Pluto in a (non)relationship, then this was it; of course we had strong natal Pluto synastry as well, along with his his Pluto trine my Venus and square my Mars, ASC and NN.

° his sa BML opposite my n Chiron: 0°10 s
° his sa BML would come into square with my Vertex and Sun/Moon-mp over the following year

From an emotional perspective it was totally Pluto/BML- experience for me, with some Uranus and Neptune and Saturn thrown in. All the goodies.

° my sa Moon conjunct his n Jupiter: 0°08 a
(2 Pisces)

Of course there was something that made me feel really happy and good

° my sa Saturn square his n Venus: 1°39 a
this would have come into play only about a year later, which was when I was experiencing the crashin down onto reality`s stony surface again

° my sa Uranus square his n NN: 0°41 s

° my sa Mars square his n Mars: 0°17 s

As for transits setting off solar arc synastry:

° Tr Uranus: 6 Capricorn

his sa ASC: 5 Aries
his sa Chiron: 5 Aries
his sa Pluto: 5 Libra

my n Venus: 6 Capricorn

------------------------

° Tr Saturn: 16 Capricorn

his sa Mars: 17 Aries
his n Sun: 16 Aries

my n Saturn: 16 Cancer

---------------------

° Tr NN: 16 Aquarius
Tr Pluto: 17 Scorpio

his n SN: 16 Aquarius
my sa Uranus: 16 Scorpio
my n Moon: 17 Aquarius

Interesting, Ceri.
We were reunited after many years in an unexpected manner by the same "intermediary" that put us in touch in the first place.
I will study the solar arcs and get back to you.

I'll use 1 deg. orbs!

Actually even one degree is generous with solar arcs, Usually they use 40 minutes applying and 20 minutes separating.
For simpleness sake I used 1 degree as well. I think it is okay.
one degree orb for solar arc means it is valid for the whole year, but you can finetune it by using the progressions of the Moon and valiant transits.

Usually astrologers use the conj, opp. square and the 8th harmonic aspects with Solar arcs. The aspects are not seen as negative or challenging per se, but just as activating, so it depends what is being connected.

First meeting

my Solar arcs:
---------------

° sa Venus semisquare n Sun: 0°46 a

° sa Venus semisquare n Mercury: 0°07 s
° sa VALENTINE semisquare n Moon: 0°31 a

° sa Saturn sesisquare n Venus: 0°08a

° sa AMOR conjunct n Venus: 0°05 s

° sa Uranus conjunct n Mars: 0°14 s

° sa KARMA sesisquar en mars: 0°06a

° sa KAALI conjunct n Saturn: °06 a

° sa Mars square n Pluto: 0°09 s
° sa Chiron sesisquare n Pluto: 0°01s

° sa Uranus sesisquare n Chiron: 0.22 s

° sa KARMA square n Chiron: 0°02a

° sa JUNO square n Vertex: 0.27 a

° sa Uranus sesi n EROS: 0.45 a

° sa JUNO square n EROS: 0.02s

The 8th harmonic aspects are of course not as dramatic as the conj, opp or square.

Though we do not consider other aspects but these, I noticed there were some quintiles triggerd

sa Uranus quintile n Moon

sa chiron quintile nJupiter

sa Neptune-NN quintile n Uranus

sa Venus quintile n Valentine
sa Juno biquintile n Valentine

sa ERos- Vx quntile n Kaali

It is kinda intersting cause Westran also mentiond the quintile aspects in his progressed synastry reports (though he uses secondary progressions)
and also I noticed several quintile patterns in our composite, so it seems just fitting I was having some on my own when we met.

I was having some interesting ones in the normal progressed chart as well

pr Mercury conjunct pr Venus conjunct pr Avx
conjunct n Moon

Pr Mercury/Venus/AVX QUINTILE pr Moon

pr Mercury and pr Venus QUINTILE n Mars and n ASC
(so they were triggering my very exact natal Moon-Mars-quintile)

and pr Moon was biquintile n ASC

Interesting. Number 8 symbolism:

Number of the perfection, the infinity. In mathematics the symbol of the infinity is represented by a 8 laid down.

Symbol of the cosmic Christ.

Number figuring the immutable eternity or the self-destruction. It represents also the final point of the manifestation.

In China, the 8 expresses the totality of the universe.

Number of the balance and of the cosmic order, according to the Egyptians.

Number expressing the matter, it is also the symbol of the incarnation in the matter which becomes itself creative and autonomous, governing its own laws.

The number eight corresponds to the New Testament, according to Ambroise.

It is the symbol of the new Life, the final Resurrection and the anticipated Resurrection that is the baptism.

According to Clement of Alexandria, the Christ places under the sign of 8 the one he made to be born again.

Represent the totality and the coherence of the creation in evolution. In China, it expresses the totality of the universe.

Represent the earth, not in its surface but in its volume, since 8 is the first cubic number.

The Pythagoreans have made the number 8 the symbol of the love and the friendship, the prudence and the thinking and they have called it the Great "Tetrachtys".

In Babylon, in Egypt and in Arabia, it was the number of the duplication devoted to the sun, from where the solar disc is decorated of a cross with eight arms.

The number 8 means the multiplicity, for the Japanese.

A favorable number, associated to the prosperity.

It is the number of the restful day, after the 7th day of the creation.

Quintiles are my favorites.
5 is the number of magic.
Any quintile brings a magical, otherwordly, creative flavor.

That is ABSOLUTELY how it feels yes.

I did not pay so much attnetion to them before, but just lately I am really noticing them.

Well natally I have a very exact Moon-Mars-quintile.

Only 0°04, 4 minutes of arc. It doesn`t make a 5th harmonci pattern, but still.

And I am noticing it synastrically especially. There is distinct quintile-flavour to how i feel the connection to Mr Sag most of the time. And I like it.

The song...kinda cheesy but it works with quintiles IMO

Yes, i agree about quintiles. In this synastry we have his Neptune quintile my Sun by 2 minutes, and my Pluto quintile his Moon by 3 minutes. It feels magical.

Sure! It just doesn't have a direct relation so I didn't know if I should elaborate.

Basically I move countries when Chiron, Jupiter and Saturn are in a big formation, like a t-square or grand trine. The only thing is, the degree that they form at isn't a degree that I have in my chart.

I thought it would have to show some connection to my chart but no.

I went to check the Solar Arc aspects for a significant relationship (as per your original question) and found that my Solar Arc North Node and Solar Arc Mars are traveling at the same degree one house behind the other. So the last transit formation of Chiron, Jupiter, and Saturn was at the exact degree that my Solar Arc North Node/Mars were at.

I'm expecting a trip to a new country soon and sure enough, Chiron, Jupiter and Saturn will make a grand trine in May and it just so happens that my Solar Arc North Node/Mars will be at the same degree.

So again, very useful information. Thank you!!

Bump! I'd never delved into solar arcs before today, and it's shedding so much light where progressions have simply not..

quote:
However, my question is simply: were there strong aspects between solar arc positions and natal planets when you met your significant other or when there was something significant happening in a relation to another person?

Some of the orbs are wide, but the sign relations between our solar arc directions are uncanny

My solar arc Sun and Mercury are conjunct his natal AC (3-4), my sMars conjuncts his nMoon (3), and my sMoon is in the same sign as his nSun, my sUranus on his nVertex (2), my sNN on his nSaturn (2).

His solar arc Venus is on my nAnti-Vertex (0), his sMars on my nDC (2), his sMoon opposite my nMoon (3), his sMercury opposite my nSun (1), his sDC conjunct my natal Saturn (1), his sValentine squared my nSun (1), his sSaturn on my nVertex (2).

In addition, my sPluto is conjunct my nSun (0) in the 5th, sValentine is on my natal NN (0), sDC on my nKarma(0), sAmor on my nMoon (3), and sCupido on my nSun (3), sUranus and Neptune on my natal DC (1-2), sVenus on my nJupiter (0) and square my Mars (0).

His sSun conjuncts his nVenus (1), and sNN conjuncts his nSun (0.01).

There is more, but my head is spinning. But, to answer your question... Yes!

Wide orbs do not count with solar arcs.
Just remember solar arcs point to a specific time frame, and an orb of 0°30 applying and separating actually covers a whole Year. NOw imagine how many years are covered by a 2 or 3 degree orb!

I would consider those:

His solar arc Venus is on my nAnti-Vertex (0),

sMercury opposite my nSun (1), his sDC conjunct my natal Saturn (1), his sValentine squared my nSun (1),
possibly, if applying.

"In addition, my sPluto is conjunct my nSun (0) in the 5th, sValentine is on my natal NN (0), sDC on my nKarma(0), sVenus on my nJupiter (0) and square my Mars (0).

His sSun conjuncts his nVenus (1),
maybe

and sNN conjuncts his nSun (0.01).

well, even if just focusing on the real tight ones, this gives a very powerful solar arc picture!
