Hi guys

Are midpoints activated by conjunctions only? I read only conjunctions are counted.. or can we take into account trines, oppositions, sextiles & squares?

It is generally encouraged to look at oppositions and conjunctions, squares, semi-squares (45 degrees) and sesquiquadrates (135 degrees) with midpoints as these are aspects created on the 90 degree dial... other aspects haven't been noted to create much effect at least not that I've read or seen or noticed.

I've noticed significant results concurrent with the rest of the chart comparison when taking all of these aspects into consideration when working with midpoints in synastry though and would encourage taking them all into account if you're going in depth into midpoint analysis.

Would you count quincunxs (I can never type this word )? What orbs do you use for midpoints yungang?

orb: 1,5°

aspects:
conjunction and opposition: those are the direct midpoints

square: strong as well

semisquare, sesisquare: some use them, some don`t, I haven`t made up my mind, but I do think they might be less strong as the aspects of the 4th harmonic.

You can see it like this. Every two planets have two direct midpoints in a circle,w hich are exactly opposite, a near and a far one.
So we are in fact dealing with a midpoint axis.

If something is square that axis, it is actually on the midpoint of the midpoint axis, which might be the reason squares work in midpoint astrology.

The semisquare/ sesisquare is the midpoint of a square, possibly toned down even more.

Soft aspects and quinkunx and other minor aspects are not considered, because in midpoint astrology we are concerned with those aspects that are event-oriented and activating, which is not the case with the softer aspects.

One exception is if soft aspects form a symmetrical aspectfigure in tight orbs, like the Yod or Grand trine, then they result in midpoint pictures, too and hence, are strongly activating.

Nevertheless, no trines with midpoints, no.

Thanks Ceridwen, that's beautifully explained.

Now to investigate our midpoints hehe. However the main Sun/Moon and Venus/Mars I already checked and they are are nicely activated.
