Would this aspect imply major challenges?

Some of the descriptions I read suggest that with this aspect the Moon person doesn't appreciate the ideas and mentality of Mercury. Mercury feels misinterpreted and misunderstood while others indicate that Mercury tends to see things in a more logical and detached way, acting in an insensitive way which leads to the Moon person feeling misunderstood.

What's your personal experience with the aspect? And who would you say is the 'victim' in this case?

Moon feels overly sensitive of mercury's way of communicating. I know with Moon conj mercury, mercury communicates in a way that makes it easy for the Moon to feel emotionally comfortable and open in conversations so I think it would have the opposite reaction with the square/oppositions.

it also makes it difficult to speak how the couple is really feeling. so speaking what they feel becomes an obstacle.. just a damper on communication.

Ugh, I was moon person, and it felt like Mercury didn't appreciate my feelings with the square.
I think it's probably mutual, because I felt his thoughts were silly. It's kind of annoying, but no insurmountable.
Mercury isn't as sensitive to the other's feelings. Kind of picks on them or trivializes the feelings in some way.
In a double-whammy situation it would be pronounced.

im glad some one brought this subject up, i was reading about this aspect yesterday. i have this aspect in synastry with some one i like.

i want to tell the person that i really like them, but after reading about this aspect, it knocked some confidence down about how to tell them, or if my way of telling them would just not 'connect' with them.

any tips?

Moon square Mercury:
What does it mean to your relationship when your natal Moon is square with your partner’s Mercury? You do not tend to feel receptive to your romantic partner’s thoughts, statements and attempts to communicate. Whatever is being communicated is being hindered by your mood. This represents an emotional challenge to your partner’s ability to converse with you. If your romantic partner’s Moon is square your Mercury, you will have a difficult time getting your romantic partner to listen receptively and are very likely to feel that he/she does not value your opinions or respect your intellectual capacity. The reality is that what you are saying or the way you are expressing it does not satisfy your partner’s present emotional needs.

I am dealing with this aspect currently with the guy i'm casually dating. It's becoming more of an issue, i'm the moon person and I get the impression he thinks im overly moody and emotional, 'too much'. There have been times when he has told me I need to calm down or relax, whereas from my side trying to get any emotion out of him is like blood from a stone. I seriously thought he didn't even like me anymore, then when I asked if he wanted to keep seeing each other he said 'of course I do' like it was obvious. This is really challenging and even though I am strongly attracted to him I wonder if we will ever get over this stage.

This is so true. Capricorn Moon/Sun and Asc signs that I know who have the said positions conjunct my Mercury, tend to feel that I understand them best. No joke

With the square, it can lead to certain alienation of someone feelings. Or the frustration of communication channels remaining open.

Both parties can feel(at most times), that they are not being "heard" or understood by the other.

But even with the square, there are certain other positions that may help to modify the tension.

Aries Moon squares my Mercury in Cap. But my Aries Asc gravitates Aries to me-because on some level they do feel that I "get" them. Even despite Mercury.

Libra Moon(also squaring Mercury) usually conjuncts my Mars. So there is usually a strong mutual rapport of understanding where they are coming from too.

If there are no modifying aspects, it can certainly add a high degree of volatility; one may react defensively or sulk(Moon) which leads the other to press and emphasize the nuances of the disagreement that much more(Mercury).

I have this aspect. It's the worst of all aspects to have in synastry. He's a Leo Mercury and i'm a Taurus Moon. By degrees it's a very tight aspect.

I can't express my feelings to him. This aspect plays out A LOT. Yesterday he was telling me how his day was, and i had a reason for this so i got jealous (He didn't betray me, bc if he ever do that i'll make him blind). But i was quiet all the time, when i started talking it was impossible to hide. He makes me feel ashamed of feeling jealous. I had to hang up on him. He offends me a lot. I despise the way he thinks sometimes. Too cold(Libra Moon). And he asked me once "Why are you being so emotional about the things i say?" -_-

If i break up with him one day i'll NEVER want to date someone who squares my Moon again, i'm serious. It's a waste of time and i lose a lot of self esteem and confidence.

***NOTE: Maybe it can work with people who are mature. But i wouldn't advise that anyway. (edit: We have supportive aspects too but this one requires a huge effort)

It's frustrating for me as our moons are conjunct, shouldn't this make it somewhat easier to handle!

I have the same placements as him. We hate it when our partners are jealous and want to argue all day about it.

We arent cold people in general (in fact quite the opposite) but have little patience for jealousy, controlling people, and being manipulated.....and then we will get cold on you, real fast.

Dramatic emotional displays with the intent to manipulate a situation makes us turn into glaciers, too.

If you just cant help it and need to always get your way, or are just inherently jealous by nature you should back out now before he gets sick of it and escapes out the side door. cuz we do that.

Ugh, I have this aspect with my dad, not to mention it forms a T-Square since I have Moon Opposite Pluto natally. His Mercury is also conjunct Venus by an orb of 2 degrees, which does the same thing to my Moon and Pluto X(

He tries to make jokes constantly about the things I do and I just don't find them funny. I (the Moon and Pluto), constantly find that when he talks to me about issues present in a relationship, he has terrible communication skills. He uses all the wrong sorts of vocabulary and it feels as if he's being condescending when that may not be his intention. It just feels as if he communicates things poorly.

Oh, I have this too. I'm the Mercury but it actually feels like I'm the Moon because I get super emotional about the way we communicate sometimes.. I don't think he does..
He has a Virgo Moon (8H) and I'm a Sag Mercury, and I think what happens is I like to spew out A LOT of random musings about the universe, or ideas in general, not necessarily asserting their truth or plausibility. I just think it's fun to talk abut stuff like that. (5th house Mercury)
And he almost always reacts in a knee-jerk way that seems hell-bent on cutting me down logically and extinguishing the conversation, even though I never needed the ideas to be correct to talk about them.
I'm usually up for the lengthy debates because it challenges me but sometimes it seems tiring, like I can't just express a little crazy idea without setting him off. (It is a big part of my personality.)

We did end up talking about it and it's because he grew up with a parent being a pastor (heavy stuff for an atheist), so he felt he was always being fed BS disguised as truth. He has Merc in the 4th so I guess he communicates straight from his upbringing.

Interesting combo we are. But we've found a middle ground.

His Jupiter is conjunct my Saturn, and my Jupiter is trine his Saturn. His Jupiter is Sequiquadrate my Pluto and Semi-square my moon.
