What does this aspect in synastry typically mean from your experience?

That depends entirely as to whether or not there are any conjunctions to the individual's ASC/DSC axis.

For example, if the ASC is square the other's NODES, but there's nothing conjunct the ASC from the NODES' individual's chart, it can feel like an unwelcome intrusion -- even if karma may be present.

So we always start from Person A's chart when determining the skipped step; THEN see what from Person B's chart is conjunct the now-identified skipped step.

Say that, in the above example, the NODES' chart has VENUS conjunct the other's ASC. This would qualify, as the NODES individual would have VENUS as a skipped step, which the ASC/DSC's chart is activating via a conjunction from their ASC.

I have a skipped step myself. It's always critical when it's activated in synastry.
