Are there any aspects you might see in the synastry of two people who liked each other but nothing ever happened? Like they were both too shy to admit their feelings, or one thought the other didn't like them (even though they did) and moved on, or even they liked each other but for some reason nothing could happen? Maybe an asteroid/asteroid couple?

must be something in the progressions rather than natal synastry.

Saturn-progressions are real crap.
Seriously.
I do see the positive in Saturn, even squares to personal planets in natal synastry, but I did notice for sure (in my own chart at least, maybe it`s just me) that whenever there was this Saturn-Venus-square coming up in progressions (including tertiary progressions), it coincided with total standstill, retreat, silence, muteness, blockages, ignorance and simply not crossing each other`s paths.

Also strongly positive romantic natal synastry accompanied by nothing of that calibre in progressions. There is the feeling of we could be so good, if only, but there is no way to manifest it into reality, or people realize too late what they feel for each other, or at different points in time.

^ Yeah, those come to mind first. But I'm not sure if that's just a necessary-but-not-sufficient condition or something else?

It'd be interesting to see if there are any asteroid pairs like this! Classic story, eh? There's got to be a blueprint for this somewhere in mythology..
