I have a Gemini ASC and my friend has Pisces ASC but Astro.com shows them trining instead of squaring. How does that even happen considering they're both mutables?

Because if your Asc is in late Gemini and hers is in early Pisces, they are trine. Aspects are geometric angles between specific points. Signs are 30° wide arcs.
