Here's the literal Greek to English translation/meaning of the name/word Ophelia: "Derived from Greek οφελος (ophelos) meaning 'help'. This name was probably created by the 15th-century poet Jacopo Sannazaro for a character in his poem 'Arcadia'. It was borrowed by Shakespeare for his play 'Hamlet' (1600), in which it belongs to Hamlet's lover who eventually goes insane and drowns herself. In spite of this, the name has been used since the 19th century." So based on the above definition I am wondering if asteroid Ophelia doesn't ALWAYS mean rejection of a lover in synastry charts, but rather it could mean helping a lover overcome melancholy feelings or feelings of doubt and hopelessness as Hamlet's character Ophelia felt. Interesting to see it used in context of 'rejection' of a lover. I've seen this asteroid used for a tendency (in an individual) to see a mountain where an Other might only regard this as a molehill. Certainly, we can help ourselves with this knowledge, with an ability to bring self to balance if we know this already. It's an asteroid that can suggest over-dramatization. There are some people who use that kind of behavior to deliberately manipulate other people. (Some couples play 'games' like that.) But it's always good when feelings of melancholy, doubt and hopelessness, can be regarded as real (no matter how small it can seem to a partner). These feelings, shared with a supportive Other who truly cares and listens, can move the Other towards a more pleasant experience. Overcome the gloominess. IP: Logged |

Found my missing link.... You might really get a lot of information and enjoyment out of this site. This definition is more empowering than what I had left above. OPHELIA: A point of over-reaction and counterproductive reactions (linked to mistrust of one’s value to others and concern about deception.) http://www.treehousemountain.com/html/keywords2.htm IP: Logged |
