Is it the case that the composite Ascendant shows how the relationship is perceived by the outside world? And that the Descendant in a composite/Davison is how the relationship to those involved? If this is right - how should we interpret the Midheaven and IC? What is the effect of conjunctions to these points? Specifically - I have Part of Fortune and Vesta conjunct the Asc of the Davison with a good friend; and Priapus conjunct the Descendant. In the Composite, Tyche is conjunct the Ascendant; and Priapus is on the Descendant (by 4minutes!). How have you seen conjunctions to angles in composites or Davisons play out?

Great questions. Bumpies for more advanced astrologers than myself! (like how can the AC and MC *both* be what is visible to others?) IP: Logged |

In a composite, I've always looked at the Ascendant as how a couple appears as a "couple" when they walk into a room. The difference between that and the Midheaven is the Midheaven is on a larger, more societal, perhaps more public scale. So the Ascendant is friends and folks you'd see on an everyday kinda basis where the Midheaven is the public at large who wouldn't know the two of you from Adam. When it comes to the IC, I always look at it as who we are at three in the morning when we're left with nothing but our private thoughts, fears, worries, hopes. It's the core, the very, very private core, of who we REALLY are when no one's watching and we're left with just us. So, when it comes to a composite, the IC would be that part of you as a couple that exists only behind closed doors that no one but the two of you see. The secret core of who the two of you are together as a couple. In my opinion, it's one of the most important angles in the chart. As for conjunctions to the angles, although I believe asteroids, Arabic Parts, etc can certainly offer helpful information, I'm more inclined to see what the luminaries, personal planets and then outer planets are doing in the chart - and with the angles - first before focusing on asteroids, Arabic Parts, etc. 😊

Thanks for the replies - I think this explains a lot I definitely agree about looking at planets and luminaries first, but found the recent asteroid/parts discoveries interesting, especially the priapus one. The good news (I think!) is that in this example, we have a tight sun conjunct moon in the second (Davison), wide conjunct venus out of sign and house in the first (6deg); and sun opposite venus in midpoint composition (among other influences). Looking purely at the angles, in both charts, the Asc is in capricorn and we are mainly seen in a work context. But the Dsc - how we really are together - is much more affectionate and supportive. The MC-IC axis is in scorpio-taurus - he has a scorp sun, I have a taurus sun. I can definitely see a creative, homey edge developing behind closed doors (in 5H in equal). IP: Logged | |
