Hey everyone
Just curious if we have any midpoint experts out there. Here are some things I noticed about a guy I've been on and off with for a few years now:

His Sun/Moon midpoint = 20"56' Cap
Conjuncts his Mercury at 22"52' Cap
His Mercury creates a grand trine with my Sun and Moon (within 3 degrees).

His Sun/Moon midpoint also widely conjuncts my anti-vertex at 11"13' Cap.

His Venus/Mars midpoint = 19"05' Pisces
Widely conjuncts my IC at 12"15' Pisces
And more closely opposes my Moon at 21"19' Virgo.

Based on these examples, my questions are: How close do the aspects need to be for a midpoint to be activated? Can midpoints be activated by angles? Also, are only the conjunction/opposition activating these points? Or do squares, trines, etc...activate them as well?

Thanks guys!

I think of midpoints as equal combinations of influence for the two items being averaged. The other item would have an equal amount of influence as the average.

the sun/.moon midpoint is one of the most important midpoints.
here with his Sun/moon MP conjunct his mercury and forming a grand ttrine with your moon and mercury, the effect would be to have a very open and communitive connection with him. it seems he opens himself up to you mentally and emotionally.

I think 3 degrees is a bout the maximum orb unless there are several other planets or midpoints involved.

here his venus/mars midpoint conjunct your moon indicates has a strong affection for you and vice versa

"Can midpoints be activated by angles? Also, are only the conjunction/opposition activating these points? Or do squares, trines, etc...activate them as well?"

midpoints on an angle do have an effect .
squares also work but sextiles and trines do not seem to have as much affect.

I've been looking at midpoints lately, especially in synastry...

I've seen a lot about hard aspects being important. Do you agree, Todd? If yes, do you count semisquares and sesquiquadrates too? (45deg and 135deg)

Asking as I have a friend who's sun/moon midpoint is sesquiquadrate Asc/semi-square Dsc (< 1 degree) and was wondering if that was worth looking into.

Some sources say yes, others are less clear.

yes these aspects are also particularly effective with midpoints. they tend to give intensity is used constructively but can be retardant/quarrelsome if ignored.

the sun/moon midpoint is very strong but usually the specific focus is described by the inspected planets and houses.

The closer the orbs the better. I would say about 3 orb differences either way. Squares,Opposition, Conjunctions only count IMO.

Their Venus/Mars Midpoint opp Your Moon.

Venus/Mars is the expression of affection. Ardent expression of love, feelings and passion etc. Quite volatile-since Mars is there.

The result could be that the opp may lead to strong feelings of excitement or irritation that wax and wane.

Mars/Moon/Venus is irritation, safety, love all rolled into one. So angry feelings and irritability form part of the nature of your relationship with the person concerned.

Ime,Moon/Venus are both the tender part of the chart. So indifference is likely not possible in the interaction.
