Example: If saturn is in the 7th and makes easy aspects in synastry it can be a strong, loyal and dependable partnership.

If in the 7th making hard aspects the relationship can be seen as a burden.

What if it's not making any aspects? Is saturn still felt in that house?

I'm only using saturn as an example here, but really I mean for any planet.

I'm not sure how to answer this about being in the house but I'll try to brainstorm it.

I've had unaspected in synastry and it's not a good time. The planet kind of floats and you feel something is missing.

I suppose this is more apparent with inner planets, like Mercury for me it was. And it's like I was mute. So, that was regardless of the house placement.

Maybe the planet then just observes (as I felt my Mercury was). So it can observe from the point of the house. But it can't really interact or converse in the dynamic.

Saturn (just the example you're using), I've been thinking more on Saturn lately, and what it means for the other planet person for a change. Most often Saturn is thought of from the Saturn person's side. But, I think too, the other person feels how, and whether, that Saturn is linked in or not.

I think that Saturn grounds and gives solid boundaries, and practical direction to the energy of other the other person's planets. It gives those planets in-this-world "feedback" (by sensation that is).

This is sensed in the greater scheme as "commitment" (or not) from the other person. If a person's Saturn is not linked in, the other person will feel a greater sense of "lost at sea" through their planets, and this will be translated as a sense of reduced commitment and "care factor" from the Saturn person.

Hope that makes some sense.
