Does an absence of Saturn contacts mean the relationship will not be a serious, long term affair?

Is anyone here married or in a long term relationship (more than 2 years!) where you lack Saturn aspects?

It's my theory that without Saturn... you may have a Big Bang! meeting and huge attraction and chemistry... but the relationship won't have longevity without Saturn.

I think I may have read that somewhere, so I'm not trying to say I made it up (lol)... but so far in looking at the synastry of people I know... this seems to hold true. No Saturn... no long term relationship. I'm wondering if it holds true with a larger sample size.

Case in point. My friend met this guy online and they were CRAAAZY about each other. He was cute, he was coming to see her and wow... I looked at their synastry and it was AMAZING! Among many other things, the most amazing was that her Sun exactly trined his Moon and his Sun exactly trined her Moon... She was a Scorpio with an Aqua moon and he was an Aries with a Pisces Moon.

The thing is, they had absolutely no Saturn contacts. I suspected that they really had "no future", but of course, I would never ever say such a thing. I just told them the wonderful potentials I saw in their horoscope and stressed the potentials and left it at that.

Strangely... a week before he was supposed to fly over, my friend met a guy in real life and she decided she'd rather pursue something with someone closer by... and unceremoniously dumped the internet guy.

I was so shocked! Astrology aside, from their emails, I thought it was going to be some grand love affair! A love affair that fizzled before either one would move to be with one another (based on synastry!)... but a passionate weekend romp or two at least! I was`so shocked that it just went nowhere fast! Wow!

With other friends... I've been able to predict who they will go on a few dates with and then have things fizzle... and who they have a bigger connection with. I just tell people superficial "hososcopes"... I don't want them going in with a pre-determined idea of whether they have a future or not.

But it's been interesting to say the least!

But my informal study of Saturn in relationships has taken on a bit more importance since an ex of mine has started dating someone and I'm a bit jealous and... they have NO Saturn in their synastry, lol.

Inquiring minds would like to know how this "rule" plays out amongst a larger sample size. So that I can declare this relationship unimportant and stop being jealous and petty, lol

From what I have seen in charts, yes, you need Saturn contacts in synastry. Saturn, with postive or negative aspects to other planets, provides the glue/commitment in relationships. Saturn's energy, while dutiful, heavy and restricting, is also binding. That restriction and heaviness can lead to a break up later on though if it's too much.

My parents have her Venus square his Saturn in synastry and have been married 45 years.

Hi Venus de Milo (lovely name!),

I agree with Astroleolady, from my experience, Saturn seems to be very important in holding the relationship together.
Most serious couples I know have couple of major Saturn aspects, besides other more BANG-BANG attraction aspects. I often see Venus Saturn in any aspect, as well as Venus Sun synastry.
My opinion is that, if we are viewing things from strictly astrological point of view, that Saturn is VERY important for long term relationship. People just seem to be willing to make more effort with Saturn, to have more persistence. Saturn rules Time and Duty in astrology, so I think the anology is quite true for synastry as well.
Regards, Selena.

Wow, so it really is a pretty hard and fast rule that without Saturn, the relationship will lack longevity?

I'm really curious to know if a long term love affair exists out there with no Saturn contacts. Hmmmmm.

I don't know of a single one. And all the ones I've looked at with no Saturn... went nowhere.

Thanks for your replies guys

I am not one to say one aspect or lack thereof kills the deal, but I must say I have never seen a long term couple or a long married one with no aspects to Saturn. Usually just being close in age gives them a shot at some aspects.

I was once told by a professional astrologer that when people wince at squares in synastry, she reminds them that often it is better to have some contact then no contact. You may have to really work, but there is actually a sense that there is something there worth working on. This has been my experience but then again, I generally have lots of long term relationships with heavy Chiron, Saturn and Pluto Contact.

Hi Lilygirl!

About this girl my ex is dating... he has no idea I know about her, and he hides all his relationships from me... if I ask him... he will always say nothing is going on, which irks me, because I know he's lying!!!

But anyhow... they have the exact same birthday, although it's 4 years apart. So they have some amazing contact with personal planets and even Pluto... but none whatsoever with Saturn.

Of course, there may be some with her Ascendant and Moon, but since I can't get her birth time, I can't check into that.

I'm such a stalker that I found her postings on another message board talking about how she told him she loved him and he didn't say it back and she's confused and might want to date others. I was tickled pink because she said he said he thought he was in love once, but he thinks now it "probably" wasn't... and he's talking about me!!! Heheh. Because he did tell me he loved me FIRST... and before me he flat out said he'd never ever been in love, not even close. He would tell me he never felt this way about anyone before. But now... he's telling her he "thought" he was once, heheheh. Because I know him, I know he won't admit to having been in love. He's told me things about past relationships that he's never told anyone else... so I'm sure it's me he is referring to.

I know I'm petty, but I have alwys been really possessive and jealous of this guy and I truly can't help it. He makes me completely nutty!!!

I have never ever been this way over a man before or after him.

So I know my behaviour is pretty pathetic and stalkerish, but I feel completely unable to stop myself.

I know this is an old thread but I don’t want to make another one with the same topic. What if you have Saturn aspects in synastry but not that many in the composite chart? But the composite chart has Uranus aspects?

"Not that many" saturn aspects or not at all? Also, are the Uranus aspects challenging or easy?

Without knowing specifics like those, in general, I'd say yes it's a very bad thing.

It seems that Saturn aspects are more crucial in synastry than composite as I've seen couples with a few Saturn in synastry but little to none in composites.

As for Uranus, harmonious aspects are nice, but the hard ones (as you may already know) symbolise erratic/unstable patterns which typically may rock a relationship unless both parties learn how to deal with the instability. My parents have Uranus square Sun/Mars and Saturn is only trining Moon but their marriage has always been stable because they give each other a lot of space and freedom.

Just to add another side of the coin: Saturn contacts, in my experience, don't necessarily guarantee longevity especially if there's other stuff going on in the chart. My ex-wife and I had great Saturn/Venus aspects - I guess we lasted a decade but it still didn't stop us from eventually splitting up.

not necessarily, and something can have saturn aspects and not be serious too

my saturn is trine my fiancee's moon, and her saturn is trine my moon (neither of us has this natal) and also my saturn is conjunct her mercury and her midheaven and sextile her ascendant and her saturn is also trine my mercury

we've been together 14 years so far

but i also have an ex fwbs i never felt anything for who had saturn on my moon and descendant squaring my mars and my saturn is sextile his sun and square his mars

i never even really cared for him as a person we just were having sex

saturn aspects in the composite don't necessarily mean anything either, that ex fwbs i mentioned has a lot of saturn aspects with me in our composite

edit: something interesting i did notice in my relationship with my fiancee that i'm not seeing with other people is a lot of quintiles and biquintiles in the composite and in synastry

Honestly, I wonder about the Saturn thing and that it supposedly is needed to keep people together. I had a lot of Saturn aspects with my ex It was his Saturn aspecting my planets. Yes we were together for a while but I ended up breaking up with him. I really feel like I wasted too much time with him. Biquintiles and Quintiles are minor aspects. But they must hold some weight.

Bi/quintiles are the best aspect to have, IMO.

DO you have a lot of uranus aspects natally? Good saturn synastry isn't going to override natal aspects.

Yes I know the Saturn aspects in synastry doesn’t otherride aspects in the natal chart. But wouldn’t it keep the relationship together? I guess people with a lot aspects to Uranus in their natal chart. Need the same in synastry and composite.

If you were willing to ignore your Uranian tendencies or if a relationship offered you a lot of space, maybe.

I think you know yourself well because you've talked about your Venus-Uranus a lot and that when a relationship becomes too "settled", you run away. So does it help even if the synastry has lots of Saturn? I doubt. The Saturn contacts might even feel stifling to you.

Saturn can also work in a different way. It can keep two people in each other's life even though they're not bonding or emotionally connecting anymore. This is when Saturn becomes a bad glue.
