example: Two people have moon in the same sign, but are over 10 degrees apart.

Person A's Saturn squares person B's moon. (but it does NOT square A's own moon)

Since both have the moon in the same sign will person A still have a problem caring about person B's emotions? Just wondering how having the same planet in the same sign might change this synastry aspect if at all.

my moon squares my own mars but doesn't square my fiancee's (we're both aries moons) and it doesn't play out in our relationship the way it just does in my life

I can understand that because you both have moon in aries so you'd both understand each other emotionally. What I'm having trouble figuring out is if two people have a planet in the same sign (so they should be able to understand each other emotionally) but One person's planet squares the other person's moon and NOT their own. So I'm wondering if the square would play out in their relationship even though they both express their moons similarly.

I mean a square aspect is supposed to mean that the two people have trouble understanding/respecting the other's energy. But if both your moons were already in aries and let's say his mars in capricorn squared YOUR moon but not his own moon which is in the same sign. His mars squaring your moon is supposed to mean his mars nature doesn't respect your emotional nature... but how would that even be possible if his emotional nature is similar to yours seeing as how you're both moon aries?

Am I making sense?

you are making sense, and what i'm saying is my mars in capricorn squares my moon in aries but it doesn't square hers, so it doesn't play out in our relationship the way it does in my life your scenario would be the reverse of this where it would play out in the synastry but not in the individual's life

us both having moon in aries doesn't make for easy understanding when we disagree though lol, it just means things recover quickly

if moon square mars happens in synastry it will play out in synastry, it might be easier to deal with when there's similarities but emotional similarity doesn't necessarily mean two people will be more respectful of each other

being similar can cause friction in some cases, and understanding doesn't make someone less selfish in some cases or less frustrated with another person
