I was watching KRS on YT last night about my Bharani sign, Ratu, and Ketu. However... it's a tad overwhelming. Anyone have a good website to go to to learn the basics of Vedic astrology, or can provide a concise explanation of where to start?IP: Logged |

krs makes it very simple, it's said that vedic astrology takes many life times learn so you can imagine how deep it gets. the best place to start would be by learning how to read the vedic chart (there are 3 types, southern, eastern and northern which is the diamond chart) they are just different in way its styled.
I personally prefer the diamond chart, the 1st house being the ascendant going anticlockwise to the 12th.
learn the meanings of each house and the significance of the planets and nodes.
get to know the exaltation, debilitation and moolatrikona of the planets.
familiarise yourself with the aspects of the planets too. Remember not to believe krappy negative stuff on computerised charts.
mahadasha is the time period you run and it changes every few years, the planet currently running for you gives an idea of the way things will be during its time period, maha dashs can be found with a vedic chart . get jhora its free and accurate from my personal experience.
There is so much more to vedic astrology, I dislike negative predictions although vedic provides you with the good the bad and the ugly. stay away from the negative stuff though.
Don't forget to study the nakshatras and their padas. IP: Logged |

So the houses don't have the same meanings in Vedic?Yeah most of that went over my head tbh, but so far i understand they place more importance on your moon Bharani than anything. What is Nakshatra in comparison? Thanks for your reply  IP: Logged |

You can check out this fourm. That under-whoever person made threads about what the houses mean (yes they're different from the Western interpretations) and other basic stuff that they copied and pasted from various Vedic sites. I don't know how good these sites are but check these out:

For example, my Vedic Moon is in Cancer but it's nakshatra is in Ashlesha which is part of the Cancer constellation (I think, don't quote me) which is in the 2nd pada, if I remember correctly. Vedic astrology seems to go from broad to specific. I think the nakshatras themselves have lords and sublords too which adds more flavoring to each planet. The Ashlesha one (lord) is Mercury. hey there its only a pleasure.
im not clued up about house meaning with western astrology but what I can tell you is that according to hindu scriptures your entire life including past lives are encrypted in your vedic chart (including divisionals charts). everything can be seen from houses.. past, present, future, family members, your body parts, work situation, pending karma, career, description of spouse even the colour of your vehicle. . I have tested on about 3 charts and I was amazed at the accuracy. to get to the more advanced stuff like timing of events and predictions knowing the basics is vital.
I would suggest if you are really interested in learning vedic astrology approach it without your knowledge of western. I doubt you can incorporate or link the 2 I could be wrong but start your learning as if were a new baby. IP: Logged |

you are spot on, nakshatra are basically like filters. it is what makes 2 individuals with the same moon or ascendant different. the padas are filters of nakshatras further making 2 people different from each other.
think of it like a filter search if were looking to buy a new vehicle. .
make -> moon sign
model -> nakshatra

And we might call the Navamsa-chart (9th harmonic) the 'specification chart'. Namely; navamsasigns and the signs of the padas in our Rasi chart (every pada covers or belongs to a certain sign) are the same.NoireAries, if it actually would be the 2nd pada of Al. then u would have a Cap-Moon in the Navamsa. Cap corresponds with the 2nd pada of Alesh.

Cool. I'll look into my Navamsa chart. What is it suppose to represent on a deeper level? I think this is also funny because in my Western chart, my Moon and Saturn trine. quote:

Yes, it's the whole house system and the traditional placements so no Pluto, Uranus, or Neptune. Jupiter for Sagittarius and Pisces, Mars for Aries and Scorpio, and Saturn for Capricorn and Aquarius. quote:

It honestly doesn't matter. All it does is change how the chart looks like, so you can have it in diamond formation or like a game board layout. The North one seems to be popular based on the sites I went on (the diamond shaped one). I know one style makes the house that has your Moon (that or it's the 4th house, I'm not sure) the first house/where the ascendant is suppose to be because in Vedic, the moon has more importance than the sun, apparently. KRS is a VERY good teacher. He starts with the basics and has play lists you should check out. He breaks it down very simple.
Take notes. I have a binder full. Its easier to go back and remind yourself with bulletin points than try to remember exactly what is said. Start with learning the houses and how they are laid out and what they mean in Vedic. It is slightly different.
Then start with the planets and what they mean.
Then you can start adding it into your chart. Dont even try and make sense of anything else yet until you have this down because youll need to know this stuff before you can even try and add that in. It just wont make sense. It sounds like a lot but I picked up Vedic probably 10x faster than I did Western Astrology.

Lol you get that off me? I suck at astrology to be honest. I got into it my sophomore year of high school and just dove right like a true Arian lol. So I can't get vibes off people. For Aries the nakshatras are: 0.00-13.20: Ashwini
13.20-26.40: Bharani
26.40-10.00: Krittika (Aries-Taurus) Libra is: 23.20-6.40: Chitra (Virgo-Libra)
6.40-20.00: Swati
20.00-3.20: Vishaka (Libra-Scorpio) I don't know about padas. I know there's 4 of them for each nakshatra though. quote:
