Daylillies are fairly easy to clean up from weeds. Each fan has it`s own root ball. Seperate out however many you would like to keep. When seperated, firmly spray all the soil off every bulbous root and hair root. Trim 1/2 to 3/4 of the fan down .
When you are certain each root system is free from all soil/weeds, gently shake off moisture and store in cool area to dry and plant later or pop in the new area.

Give the neighbor the rest but don`t compost as the bindweed will keep growing in the compost.

Curious what you decided to do. Are you saving, sharing or pitching them out?

The bindweed isn't as bad now since I yanked a lot. Now I'm clipping them at ground level. I would like to keep the day lillies and I wonder if mulch would help. I could add a heap of mulch, or even dry grass clippings in between to keep the weeds out.

I think I already composted some of the bindweed but I'm only using the compost under the black mat in the veg garden so it shouldn't be a problem. I was bagging all the weeds at one point and decided this year to compost everything to grow more soil and then keep the growth under control by just spreading the new compost under the black mat instead of through the yard.

Still, very stubborn for a weed.

Years ago, when driving through the south, I was amazed at the miles and miles of the thriving vine.
It covered everything and made the areas look like dark jungles. It was actually beautiful to look at but know it ravages the area of indigenous plants and nutrients.
MI is starting to suffer an invasion of wild grapevine. It strangles the trees and chokes out the plantlife. Birds carry the seed in their poop.
