Hi there. I don't know how much you folks have heard but there has been some severe flooding in the UK. 10,000 homes have been flooded. 35,000 people are without running water because a water treatment plant was contaminated by the flooding and will take 2 weeks to fix. The government has distributed bowsers but these are emptying and they have failed to refill them. If you have a car there are places where you can buy bottled water.A power station was almost flooded over (they came within 6 inches of loosing it) which would have meant EVERYONE in the entire county of Gloucestershire would have had to be evacuated! Some homes are without electricity although some has been restored now.
My internet and phone line have been playing up a bit but it seems ok at the moment.....
You never think about how much we really rely on running water and electricity until this sort of thing happens! My partner managed to fetch enough bottled water and water for household cleaning so far, but things will be tough if they don't keep filling the bowsers. I am managing to keep the toilet functioning by tipping the water from the washing up bowl into it, etc! Imagine if I had to dig a hole in the garden?
I just feel extremely fortunate- things could be a lot worse.....it does however make you appreciate just how crucial clean running water (and electricity) is to our survival and for the normal functioning of society and businesses. It also makes you realize that nature is far more powerful and always will be! We should adapt to nature- nature will not adapt to us. Respect!
