Randall | 1. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) wrote the script that he hopes Republicans will follow in 2016 and made himself the frontrunner for the GOP presidential nomination by beating his Democratic challenger by more than 22 points. In a solidly blue state, Christie won a majority of the votes of women and Hispanics and also made impressive inroads with younger voters. It's very clear Christie would be a competitive presidential candidate nationally. What's much less clear is if he can make it through the GOP primary process. 2. Despite weeks of polls predicting a big win for Terry McAuliffe (D) in the Virginia governor's race, Ken Cuccinelli (R) lost by just three points after he made his opposition to ObamaCare the focus of his campaign. It's an early indication that President Obama's health care law could be just as energizing to Republicans as it was in the 2010 midterm elections. 3. In Alabama, Bradley Byrne (R) defeated Tea-Party-backed candidate Dean Young (R) in a special congressional runoff to fill the seat of former Rep. Jo Bonner (R). Byrne's win was a victory for the GOP's moderate wing in the battle for control of the party. http://theweek.com/article/index/252340/3-big-wins-for-republicans-last-night |
AcousticGod | So Christie will defeat any Tea Party notions of the Republican party? quote: 3. Well, that is good news. Hopefully, he's even more moderate than a standard Republican as well. |
Catalina | Are you really counting a loss as a win? Can you spell S-T-R-E-T-C-H? And yes, good to see Alabama giving the thumbs up to Rational republicans. A win in anyone's book! |
Randall | It's a win in that it wasn't the landslide loss anticipated, probably due to Obamacare, which bodes well for the Republicans in the future. |
Ami Anne | The Main stream Republicans are sell outs. It doesn't matter if a Christie gets it. He is a major sell out. The Republicans and Dems are one monolith. The tea party is the alternative. ------------------ Want To Ask Any Question About Bible Prophecy? Go For it. It is Free, of course. http://www.mychristianpsychic.com/

Randall | Next year should prove interesting. |

Good analysis / breakdown |
Catalina | In Virginia for decades the Governor has always been elected from the opposite party to the President at the time. That should have been Cuccinelli...but he still hasn't figured out that women don't like government interference with their bodies. So you could say his policies on abortion and invasive ultrasounds lost him the race...they just coincidentally (?) also conflict with the conditions set by the ACA. |
Node | Repubs need to recognize that women hold the key. Women hold election power over men. Though severely unrepresented in congress, the women's vote, should be courted. |
Randall | I would love to see a woman or a woman VP--just not Clinton. |
