What experiences did you have in 2006 that taught you important life lessons? Which such lessons are you carrying forward to master in this New Year, and which have you already learnt well? The major lessons that I learnt in 2006 were the power of self identity and self confidence. I am no better and no worse than any other person out there, whether they are Mother Teresa or Saddam Hussein. At the end of the day, we are all human, and we each have the same potential and the same life inside of us. The only person who can bring me down is me. Things may happen. They may be embarassing. They may cause me to feel guilt. Or pain. But ultimately, I have power over them, because I have power over myself. There is power in an apology. There is power in standing up for yourself. Be aware of your actions. Don't bottle up emotions. Think of absolutely the worst thing that could happen in a scenario, and once you've faced it in your head, you'll see that it's actually really not bad at all.
Learning to trust is something I am carrying forward into 2007. How do you break down those internal walls when dealing with other people? Not their walls, but your own? How do you forgive people who have done things to hurt you? More importantly, how do you learn to remember them or interact with them without feelings like anger and betrayal colouring your perceptions?
Life's an ongoing process.
Every day, I appreciate the lessons I learn more and more. It's not a lie to say that you live and you learn.
