T O P I C R E V I E WVenus De MiloOn this other astrology board, this newbie posted a question about their ASC. They were confused because astro.com said they had a Cappy ASC, but they read an interp for the signs in the houses that said if you have Virgo on the 8th house cusp, then you have an Aqua ASC. Well, someone who IMO, is just trying to act all high and mighty and uber knowledgable starts posting cryptic messages about intercepted houses and "well, technically YOU DO have Aquarius in the 1st house" and the newbie is like "whats that? "...Correct me if I am wrong, please... but I thought it didn't really matter what sign was in the rest of the house, the rulership is teh rulership and thats what influences that house, right?I mean, it's one thing to have a Cap ASC in the latest degrees and then perhaps have a planet in Aquarius, in the 1st house. Then obviously the planet is going to be ruled by the sign it's in, plus the interp for it being in the 1st house.I have never heard anyone make such a big deal about a sign being "in" a house it doesn't rule and then go on and on about interceptions and how they have studied astrology since 1995. IMO, she's not even answering the newbies question and just further confusing her, and possibly giving her wrong info, though... I'm not sure about that.I just hate for wrong astrological information being given to such a new and impressionable enthusiast, so I want to set it straight if I can, but I don't want to be an arrogant ass and give the wrong information either. I'm almost certain I'm right, but I just want to make sure. I did explain however that if Cap is on the ASC and her birth time and place are 100% correct, that Cap is her ruler period point blank.Also... just for my self... is it possible to have unevenly distributed houses and NOT have an interception? Thanks!Venus De MiloAnyone? I'd really like an answer to these questions, at least if I'm wrong, then I should know, right?lalalindaI'm not sure I understand what you are asking but I will still try to answer your questions.I don't know anyone who has only one sign distributed evenly per house. With the degrees of the houses they vary but with no interceptions the number of degrees per house is pretty evenly distributed but not exact. When you have an intercepted house the energy of the interception is not immediatly seen, the sign on the cusp is.With the Ascendant you follow the Ascendant Ruler. If there happens to be another planet in a different sign in the first house also, you blend the energies. When a planet is in a house that it doesn't rule you look for ways that the planet is unique, like being in a sign where it's dignified or debilitatedin mutual receptionson an angleon a criticle or aneretic degree etc.Hope that helpsMore pieces of the puzzle Outsolar_third quote:but they read an interp for the signs in the houses that said if you have Virgo on the 8th house cusp, then you have an Aqua ASC. Just like Leo will always represent the 7th of Aquarius (as it is it's opposite sign).Or the simplest example, with Aries.. The 8th sign from Aries will always be Scorpio so if you go by equal house only, Scorpio does represent the 8th house of Aries. In the Newbie person's example if they have a Capricorn Ascendant, then through the Equal house system their 8th house will always be represented by Leo. The majority of astrologers use Placidus as far as I know, but some do still use Equal house. I think Linda used equal house. It depends on what you feel is more accurate for you. A lot of horoscopes are based on the Equal house system. For instance .. as an Aries person, if the Moon was transiting through Scorpio on any particular day.. The astrologer writing my daily horoscope interpretation would say something like “Aries people now have the Moon transiting through their 8th house of mysteries left unsolved"... Horoscopes are usually based on a solar chart where the beginning of the sign ( in this case 0’ deg Aries) becomes the Ascendant.. and the chart is read based on where the planets fall (within the Equal house system)They are sometimes strangely accurate which makes me wonder about whether the Equal system works better than we'd think.. and also whether Solar charts (with the Sun as the Asc) have some truth to them. It's all a bit complicated for someone who is a newbie though. I think they should learn a bit more about the simpler things and later look into different house systems etc.. otherwise they'll just get confused. I've gotta go soon, and I'll remind myself to come back here and have a closer look at your questions.I hope you've found, or will find the answers you want soon. Best of luck.------------------"Money is temporary, happiness is forever."Some solar Piscean guy, Aotearoa, winter 2002cristinamethere is one case when a sign being IN a house matters: when a sign is *intercepted* - ie when a WHOLE sign falls within a house but on no cusp at all (no house begins with that sign. eg: my ASC is at 25* Aquarius and my 2nd house starts at 16* Aries - the whole of pisces falls in my first house (and the whole of Virgo falls/is intercepted in my 7th) - also - there are no house-cups in those two signs. since my 2nd house starts in aries, my 3rd in taurus, my 4th in gem etc - other than the ASC/DESC axis, the rest of my chart is AS IF my asc was Pisces. Uranus is my chart ruler and my Asc is Aquarius, yet Neptune is CO-ruler of my ASC/chart (and experience showed me that some ppl *see* me as a Pis - so that sign, being there, does matter). okay now?D for DefiantHi Venus De Milo,I just read your initial post in detail. To be honest, I have yet to get myself better acquainted with some very basic astrological terms and just the fundamentals, you know. I know practically nothing about interceptions (but I'm going to), but I personally think if the first house cusp is in, say, Capricorn- then no matter in how near-the-end the degree of the cusp is, the first house cusp, i.e. the ascendant, is Capricorn. IMHO. ------------------"Money is temporary, happiness is forever."Some solar Piscean guy, Aotearoa, winter 2002
