T O P I C R E V I E Wpeace2 months late I know.Q:Since this occasion is celebrated every February,it falls into 2 Sun Signs Aqaurius & Pisces.Any relations?. pearlizedI dont know but good question. It actually used to be a week the 2nd week of February but eventually it became a month long event. The original week was to coincide with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglas.peaceSun Signs:Aquarius & Pisces and how it relates to Black people:Aquarius/the InventorBlack people created rap musicPisces/the PoetRap music + rhymesSoul music(deep feelings) amisha121877I never thought of the Pisces/Aquarius connection to this. something to think about though.Dulce Luna quote:Black people created rap musicActually, what is now called hip-hop originated in the Bronx between an X number of people (I can't remember the exact number) who were African American and Hispanic. Mama MiaThis is what I know about black history month and why it is in Feb..Also from what I know blacks were the first to bring hip hop out. We started with Curtis Blow and grand master flash..That movie Brown Sugar tells alot..However Hip hop has nothing to do with black history month.. Black History Month Black History Month is the successor to Negro History Week which was initiated on February 12, 1926 by Carter G. Woodson, a pre-eminent historian and founder of the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History. Woodson was concerned that the contributions of Black Americans were overlooked or misrepresented and he began lobbying for Negro History Week as early as 1915. He selected February because it included the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln (February 12) and Frederick Douglass (February 14) whom he believed had dramatically impacted the lives of Black Americans. In 1976, Woodson's legacy, now renamed the Association for the Study of Afro-American Life and History, successfully lobbied to extend Black History Week into a month-long observance.Dulce LunaAfrican Americans may have been the ones to bring out Hip-Hop but they weren't the only ones to help create it, that's what I really getting at.alanabelle86that's true, Dulce Passionate Pisces022586Hi Peace,Interesting topicHowever, I think there is no connection with black history month falling into the signs of Pisces and AquariusTo me (being a black female)I celebrate black history month every day because I am thankful from where I came from and what my ancestors did.So in that case black history month will fall under every sign!!------------------Ascendent CapricornMoon Virgo 8th houseSun Pisces 1st houseVenus Pisces 2nd houseMercury Pisces 2nd houseJupiter Pisces 1st houseMars Sagittarius 11th Uranus Sagittarius 11thSaturn Sagittarius 10thNeptune Capricorn 12thPlutoConjunctMC ScorpioBelageBlack history month is celebrated in America, not all over the world, so it's an AMERICAN phenomenon. Not surprising that it's falling on a month dominated by Aquarius and to a lesser extent by Pisces. In America, blacks are perceived as different, upsetting, unpredictable, revolutionary, unusual, all of which are Aquarian/Uranus characteristics. The Pisces part has to do with the dancing and music connotations.Dulce Luna quote:In America, blacks are perceived as different, upsetting, unpredictable, revolutionary, unusual, all of which are Aquarian/Uranus characteristics.Wow, that's a very interesting way to connect blacks in America to the Aqua/uranus influence. IqhunkeditIqhunkeditBelage quote:"I am black but not African American and once found it interesting how astrologers connected my culture to the sign of Cancer because of the familial structuring in our society. Dulce Luna, I can see how Black Africans could be connected to the sign of Cancer, as Africa is often referred to as "Mother Africa", or as the origin (womb) of mankind. These are all Cancerian traits. alanabelle86I don't see any distinct reasons why it should fall in the month of Aquarius/Pisces. Maybe some interesting correlations that 1) Aquarius- Throughout American history, we've always been the extreme outcast always seeking a great freedom and liberation that is always held off for "another day or the future", being just out of our grasp. And so we've constantly rebelled against brick wall after brick wall which can make us seem like the great "upsetters" of the Country at times. Also, being outcast in that our status in America was unlike any other race that has ever been known here. Out of place and unusual in that we originally did not come here willfully, and (correct me if I'm wrong), I believe we were the only race that was forced here for purely economic purpose. Funny how Lincoln, called the Great Liberator, is also an Aqua. All the changes in history made in our benefit has come in a sudden, eruptive, and violent change. It's never been something that has been discussed and passed calmly. Its always been through intense tension and rebellion.2)Pisces - interesting because of all the sorrows, disillusionment, ill-perceptions, secret truths, spirituality, hopelessness, and undoing in our past, present, and future as a whole. Always the underdog it seems, and when we try to overcome that we're looked down upon.Even guilt. I know when I was far younger, and attending far less open-minded and accepting schools, they didn't openly acknowledge Black History Month. And often, being the only African-American student, I felt so out of place, outcasted, and guilty for being proud. Because I'd always hear we didn't deserve a "month" etc. Those are Aqua/Piscean emotions...so Idk. I love Black History Month. Hooray for it. :-)Not preaching just correlating. I would also agree with it.Its interesting to me to study the whole affects of the Diaspora on other cultures. Like for instance, I find that many Southern Foods are the same foods I eat back at home. I've also find the same thing with Hispanic foods as well. Even some of the words in my native tongue are similar to Spanish words along with the structure....but that may be due to Portuguese influence on my mother tongue. My Opinion on Black History month is that it is great but it is more a reflection of Black-American History which I don't wholely identify with (mainly because it isn't my history). In this country, AA are considered a wild card, in more ways than one...Regarding the guilt associated with Pisces, don't forget that the guilt feeling is also experienced by non-AA for the past historical injustices toward AA. IMO that guilt feeling is rarely acknowledged, rather subtarrenean, but always in the background and sometimes used for political purposes by unscrupulous politicians. neptune5oh thats cool dulce, its funny because i never even remembered you saying you were mozambican. And actually theres a program online, well not for you because you know your ancestry, but for people like me, and its called africanancestry.com and you take a test to see where in Africa your ancestors were from. Once i get some cash i'll be doing that and i'll tell everyone the results. But on my dads side i'm jamaican,neptune5 quote:africanancestry.com and you take a test to see where in Africa your ancestors were from.oh and just to clarify, its not an online or written test, its a biological swab (the DNA thing, yea)Dulce LunaOh yeah, I know which test you're talking about. I saw a Special for it on PBS with all these celebrities taking it. I'd like to take that test myself actually.....just out of curiosity to see. I already have an idea of what parts of the map would be highlighted. I can already guess at face-value that most Africans in the Americas originate from West Africa. We in East Africa weren't largely selling slaves to the Europeans....we sold to the Arabs and Persians instead. But even that wasn't on a large scale; it was only one part of our trade relationship with them. The Europeans were the ones who came to Africa mainly for slaves and this mostly took place in West Africa.alanabelle86I wish I knew my ancestors. I might check out that site. I've always wanted to do that. I do know on both sides of the family my great-great-greats were slaves but that's about it. I wish I had even a mild clue. I do know there's some native american blood mixed in, through my maternal side and west indian on my paternal side...but that's it.------------------"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere" - MLK Jr.Imperfection is beauty; madness is genius. and its better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely b o r i n g. - Marilyn Monroe
