T O P I C R E V I E WBucketriderAs this was the last response to the quincunx thread, I think it got lost. I am curious to get input on your experiences with the quincunx. I disagree with most of the official interpretations. The stock interps of the quincunx are pretty fatalistic. I dont think the quincunx is a "fated" aspect. It is an aspect of more subtle and mostly mental tension than the 2 family aspects (square, semisquare, opp, etc) which are much more overt and "manifesting." I dont think its a minor aspect. It is major and can be the center of a chart or the "main" transit going on. Though its effects are slower to be seen and realized. In a natal chart, quincunxes may have a longer term trajectory of A. noticing there is a problem B. deciding what exactly is wrong and C. what to do about it. A square presents you with a problem directly and urges you to resolve it. All this unfolds fairly straightforwardly and the situation propels toward resolution. With the quincunx, the propulsion is more subtle and you can almost adjust and ignore it and move on but will be the worse off for it if you dont fully address it. I think it gathers steam slowly. It is ultimately an opportunity of growth in consciousness more than circumstance. It deals with issues of approach and mental circumstance more than manifested, material situations which are the domain of the 2 family aspects. I think quincunxes along with biquintiles and tri-septiles are all aspects of great creative potential which is why they are located right near each other harmonically (144-154). It is very much up to you - how you resolve the tension of a quincunx. The planets involved are what make it more or less challenging (saturn or uranus to venus vs. saturn or uranus to mars which would probably be easier depending on their respective sign and house placements). It is a more hidden aspect and has a 12th house flavor in my opinion. This is consistent with the semi-sextile being 1/12 of the circle and being ascribed a mysterious piscean flavor. The quincunx and the semi-sextile indicate hidden or unseen potential connections. Much of the work required by the quincunx is in its essential nature - which mainstream astrology honed in on. It does not have linking or overtly conronting/tense energies as do the 2 and 3 family aspects. Once it is understood and worked with, it becomes a great linkage and can be more creative and original than a trine or sextile. It is at this point that it fits with the biquintile and triseptile aspects which are adjascent to it.janeReally good. I can identify with a lot of that. I've been in a relationship for 5 years with someone whose sun forms a quincunx with my sun, & our moons are quincunx by sign. What you said about the quincunx being an opportunity of growth in consciousness is so right, in our case. Our major issues have all been about issues of approach, of the way our mindset frames our interaction. (I even had to experience this type of growth before I was able to begin the relationship with him.) Looked at externally, the material circumstances for how we relate hasn't changed much over the past 5 years, but there has been tremendous growth internally, growth that if hadn't occurred would've killed our relationship. This brings up the creative & original character of the quincunx. The trine & sextile don't create anything new, but the quincunx eventually must. The only quincunx I have natally is Venus (Cap) - MC (Leo). But I also have Venus quincunx Moon by sign. BucketriderHi Jane - its great to hear that you have worked out your quincunxes in your relationship and have gotten them to work for you. What do you mean you "had to experience this type of growth before I was able to begin the relationship with him?"I have one in my chart: a mars and venus quincunx with a 1.3 degree orb. I do feel it as an issue in a global way in terms of my romantic choices which seek elements and a unique blend of both my mars and venus in gemini and cap. The tension is between mars in gemini which values intellect, fun and interesting, quick moving conversation and venus in capricorn and its quiet, measured, deeply valuing "character" aspects. Gemini is not noted for character and caps can be boring. This is a pretty concrete analysis and the truth is more abstract. I think I have an interesting blend of my cap venus with my gemini mars. The capricorn probably stablizes the gemini in a quiet, backgroundesque/not obvious way and gives it more focus and weight than other mars/gemini people I have encountered. I also have moon in gemini which biquintiles my venus.Has the quincunx to your MC been a factor?let ther b lightmy sun and uranus are almost exactly quincunx...my sun is quincunx my ascendant at a 4-5 degree orb and my mercury and jupiter quincunx at half a degree orb....though i'm not really sure what all of this means..*edited to add*i also have moon quincunx asc at a 21/2 degree orb..strange i never noticed this earlier...let ther b lightok i read up on these aspects in astrologyweekly.com...in almost every aspect it said that i let people take advantage of me and overdo the giving bit. it also said that people might secretly laugh at me for being so unaware of this gullible nature of mine. i actually think that this used to be quite true. to a certain extent it is true even now. i dont know how to handle my finances at all. in the sense that when it concerns friends and family members i tend to give huge discounts...the problem is that my family is huge, so it becomes a little too much at times. and even though i'm aware of this fact i cant help it!comica23 quote:It is ultimately an opportunity of growth in consciousness more than circumstance. In my natal chart, I have two main quincunxes - Sun/Ascendant and Sun/Pluto. Sometimes, my different ways of approach in certain situations/issues can be quite troublesome (Virgo ascendant VS Aries Sun), as they can be almost completely different. But it can be quite rewarding in the end, coz it leads to a wider conscience towards the situations/issues. ^_^In the synastry between me and my bf, there are also quincunxes like Sun/Moon, Sun/Venus, Mars/Venus DW (by degree and by sign). But it isn't directly noticeable, and I'm still trying to understand these aspects in synastry.I still can't fully understand this aspect, yet this thread is quite insightful (although I couldn't understand the post completely). ^_^;BelageAccording to Magi Astrology, quincunxes are beneficial aspects, unless they involve the planet Saturn.
