T O P I C R E V I E WdarkdreamerHow do you feel about these aspects in synastry?Do they have an effect? If so how much of effect to they have? For example: if a synastry is lacking Venus-Mars- major aspects, but has Venus semisquare Mars, would that function as some sort of "attraction-aspect"=I know that these aspects are used in midpoint-astrology, but how valid are they in usual synastry?darkdreamerbumpPeaceAngelddwouldn't they have a weaker effect? therefore, should they operate at a closer orb? they could be really silly questions - but if you don't ask - you never learn.darkdreamerOF course, I think the orb would have to be 1° to 1,5° MAX.I guess I am just wondering, how MUCH weaker they are than major aspects, or if they can be felt.PeaceAngeloh, i would have thought at 3 degrees. because they're still planetary aspects - whereas with asteroids we use the 3 which makes sense because they are a weaker influence. so as in half as effective as a square for instance, so if 6 degrees is normal orb then 3 for the weaker aspect - so effectively cutting everything in half. that's what the terms suggest to me - but you've really cut them - 1 deg - wow!but by diminishing the orb you're giving the aspects themselves more power too. do you know what i mean? because the closer the orb the more significance it will have.now that is very inarticulate but i so hope you get what i'm trying to say.Neptune's Musedarkdreamer, according to the definition of the semi-square (www.astrologynotes.org), i would assume it has to be activated to be felt. The definition speaks about it being half the force of the square but it pushes one for ambition and success. So, in the case of Mars and Venus, I think you need activating aspects to push the semi-square or perhaps if Mars/Venus are important planets in the chart (ruler, big weight), it can be felt by the person.Would you say if a planet completes the square it would triple the force then? Or if a planet softens the aspect it would diminish it? What do you think? What kind of activation would make this felt? Hmmm...darkdreamerSo you think it still has an influence in synastry?I asked this question with Stuart Townsend in mind; you know I was searching for the reason for that strange attraction I feel towards him.And there is only his Pluto square my Venus, but not more than that. But his Venus is semisquare my Pluto with an orb of 1°15.His Mars is widely semisquare my Venus with 1°43 (1°-2° seems to be orb the astrologers agree on).And I thought that might be relevant.More theoretically speaking: if two planets are semisquare a third planet in the middle, the two outer planets will be square.Example:my Venus on 6° Capricornmy Pluto on 9° Librahis Mars on 19° ScorpioMy Venus is square my Pluto, but my Pluto as well as my Venus are both semisquare his Mars. That means that his Mars is on the midpoint of my Venus-Pluto. I thought that might be releveant.I think I remember that Glaucus said something like this, too.PeaceAngeli'll just sit back and learn from the masters i think. you guys are so good - give the rest of us so much to learn from - well, i shouldn't speak for others - but me anyway.EighthMoonHey DD, I know on CafeAstro, they consider Sun, Moon, Venus, Mars, or the AC in semisquare to the Sun/Moon midpoint a compatibility factor. What are the symbols for semisquare and sesisquare? Isn't semisquare the one that looks like an L? What's a sesi symbol look like? 8thGot Gemini?I have to come back to this after I look at them in my relationships and think about their influence. Subtle and plays more on the psychological level. I read somewhere that a lot of semi-sextiles in synastry breeds 'suspicion" between the 2 parties involved. The quincunx is not as direct as the opposition but it could manifest itself as an indirect psychological effect. Think of the YOD as well which sometimes lays dormant until activated. I would tend to think of the semi-square along these lines.Perhaps this energy activated is due to the fact that it is focusing on the same planets. Venus and Pluto, with challenging aspects. Smiles,PeaceAngelneptune's musei have been encountering your posts in the threads in particular the last couple of days for some reason and while you may not think you are a master, you are certainly a grand teacher and i, for one, am learning from you.i also always learn a lot from dd. and just observing the conversations between everyone. really interesting.Neptune's MuseThanks a lot PeaceAngel! lechienDarkDreamer, this might be an interesting example for you i got here.i have my Venus 0 degree semi-square a friend's Mars, and his Venus semi-square my Mars by 1 degree. then our composite chart AGAIN shows the Venus and Mars semi-square (1 degree). so that's triple semi-square between us.how does this feel, it's like a REEEEALLY-subtle-but-definitely-there consciousness of each other's sexuality. since it's mutual and even backed up by the composite as well, the balance seems to be perfect. it's not like a burning passion, but it's almost like an unmentioned assurance that we are deep down attracted to each other. and since it's just there, there is no need to pursue it by activating it.but for example, as this happened before, it will also be quite easy to press the switch and be passionately sexual. then turn it off and just go back into the non-active period again without weird feelings. but it's not quite like an easy option when we need to get laid though. there is definitely tension, and it seems that we are setting boundary and rules between us unconsciously.
