wow i'd be interested in to see what others have to say on this, my Sun sign is on the 29th degree of Scorpio. And i always wondered why i feel more like a Sagittarius than a Scorpio. I did ask about this on another site: (here are the replies to the question, not much...but it's something.)
29th degree? I’ve read some where that it’s known as the Anaretic Degree or Karmic Degree…?
could you explain what that means?
one answer: It's BS. Somewhere along the line this rumor, and that is about all it is, got started. And it got started a long time ago. I've never seen any serious astrologer place any emphasis on it.
The origin may be in the essential dignity called variously the bounds or the terms. There are a couple of systems of terms, These are unequal divisions of a sign, five each. Each division is ruled by a planet. The origin of the terms is unclear, but they have been around for a long time. Anyway, in every system, the final degrees of each sign are ruled by one of the malefics, Mars or Saturn. Maybe, and only maybe, this is where the origin of the "29 degrees of everything is bad" rumor started.
The anareta is an old term used to determine length of life. Astrologers used to determine length of life first thing. What is the point of spending hours and hours calculating a chart and predicting events 30, 40, 50 years down the road if the native will be dead next year? At least that was the thinking. There are probably as many ways to determine length of life as there are house systems.
The anareta is the planet that destroys. There is another planet, defined as the giver of life that is called the hyleg. The theory is when the hyleg meets the anareata by direction, transit, in a solar return, whatever, and the conditions are right - ZAP - the native dies. It is wonderfully elegant. The problem is that it doesn't work real well. I've seen one rather complex system that has produced very accurate results for people whose dates of birth and death are accurately known. I'll let you know in a few years if it works for people who are still alive. ;-)
There are several rules for determining the hyleg and the anareta. But it isn't too difficult to see how the final degree in a sign got the name "anaretic degree" from people who probably have no idea what the anareta is, much less what the bounds are. Besides the fixed star Regulus is currently at 29 Leo and it is supposed to be a somewhat fortunate star.
I wouldn't place a whole lot of importance to this, but if it spurs you on to learn about essential dignities and the bounds, it will be a good thing.
**The "29th degree" is between 28 and 29 degrees. So 28 degrees 15 minutes is the "29th degree." Our ancestors tended to think in ordinal numbers (first second third etc) not cardinal numbers (one, two three). The difference is one starts at 0 the other at 1.
The so called "anaretic degree" is actually the 30th degree, i.e. between 29 and 30 degrees of a sign. Think about it. The first year of life is between birth and the first anniversary of that birth. But the baby is one (cardinal) year old on his first (ordinal) birthday, but he is about to enter his second (ordinal) year of life.

2nd answer:
Saterah....Sun in 29 deg Capricorn indicates a major and very important year for you at age 29. Moon at 29 deg of any sign brings changes in life. As for you, this is called the Azimene Degree and denotes infirmity, lameness, abnormality, or birthmarks etc...
Moon at 29 deg Taurus conjunct "The Pleiades" will make the person weep about something around her 29th year.
When the Giver of Life (called Hyleg or Apheta) is afflicted by the ANARETA (Destroyer of Life) , death usually follows. Saturn orMars usually play an important part of Anareta, but in some cases, Uranus, Sun, Moon or Mercury.
Sun may act strongly as destroyer of life when Moon is HYLEG (giver of life) and when Jupiter or Venus does not support the Hyleg by good aspects.
In order to be Hyleg, Sun or Moon must be in the houses 7, 9, 10 or in the first part of the 11th.
Anareta is taken by that planet that fllicts the Hyleg. So if Sun, Moon, and Ascendant are not badly aspected, a long life can be expected.
Usually, by taking the distance frm the ANARETA to the HYLEG and transporting it into time, one obtains the probable time of death.
One final note, the Part of fortune , the Moon's Node are other sensitive points in any chart.
just posted, thought you might be interested in it. i wasn't really satisfied with the replies i got, obviously. lol. :P
