Coffee | Hopefully this will help you with transits. If you didn't know, if the Moon is within 90 degrees of the Sun, either way, it is NEW. If the Moon is not within 90 degrees of the Sun, either way, it is FULL. You look where the Sun is as to where the Moon is. While the Moons transit is weak when moving around the zodiac on it's monthly cycle, it's strong at the points when there is a FULL or NEW Moon. You want to know where the moon is now? The Moon is within 90 degrees of the Sun (either way) which means it is NEW. The actual point where the Moon is at is the exact place of the Sun. If the Moon was not within 90 degrees (either side) of the Sun right now, the Moon would be FULL. The actual point where the Moon would be is the exact OPPOSITE place of the Sun. |

Coffee | Did anyone not know this, or wish to bring up another way they see the movement of the moon in transit? |

Aya_and_baby | I reckoned it was 30° - 15° on either side of the sun. Not sure how to take the 90° thing, though... ------------------ [Insert catchy signature here.] |

Best way I can think about defining a full and new moon. |
MertSerimer | According to India Astrology, As the moon comes closer to opposite of the Sun, its effects increases. When it starts to come closer to sun, it's effect starts to decrease. |

Coffee | We're not in India now Maybe due to the fact that the Sun and Moon are together, blocking the Moon, while the moon is 'free' to shine without the Sun getting in the way, at fullness. |

=)) In Mayan astrology -what your logic is - is logical explanation of less effection. Don't know in India Astrology though. Still it makes sense for both. But if full moon is most fortunate for material or many things, it will be bad for native psychology since they will be opposition -different ego and different emotions-. Also sun-moon aspects can show the parents, as the fortunate it becomes more parent problem they say.. Aykk Anyway off-topic.

Coffee | Anyone not know this? |
Lioness | Im not sure about the transits.. But I know I was born on the 8th phase of a new moon.. Balsamic Moon phase My moon is one degree behind my Sun. Which also makes my moon combust. |
Lioness | http://www.artcharts.com/learn_astrology/moonphases.html The Moon's phases are determined by the Moon's constantly changing relationship to the Sun. There are eight (8) Moon cycles, dividing the circle into eight 45 degree angles. The cycle starts with the New Moon, which is the conjunction of the Moon and the Sun (0 degrees of separation). The 2nd phase is the (waxing) Crescent Moon, which is a separating angle of 45 degrees, or a semisquare angle. The 3rd phase is the First Quarter Moon, when the Sun and Moon are 90 degrees apart. The 4th phase is the (waxing) Gibbous Moon phase, a separating angle of 135 degrees, also called sesquiquadrate. The 5th phase is the Full Moon, or 180 degree separation. At this point, the Sun and Moon start to approach again. The 6th phase is the Disseminating Moon (or waning Gibbous) phase, an approaching angle of 135 degrees. The 7th phase is the Last Quarter Moon, an approaching square angle of 90 degrees. The last and 8th phase is the Balsamic Moon (or waning Crescent) phase, when the Moon approaches the Sun at a 45 degree angle.
Here are links to explanations of the Moon phases. New Moon Crescent Moon First Quarter Moon Gibbous Moon Full Moon Disseminating Moon Last Quarter Moon Balsamic Moon |
Coffee | quote: Originally posted by amowls**: Well, this is convoluted as hell. Surprising, coming from you.Still don't understand why you would use the Sun in place of the Moon, considering the Sun and Moon are separate entities entirely.
They are seperate? Tell me, when do you know it's a full or new moon? |
Coffee | quote: Originally posted by amowls**: So why even designate THE MOON and THE SUN as separate in astrology then? The Moon is only connected to the Sun BECAUSE Earth is a planet (and the Moon is a satellite of Earth). Seems to me you're just trying to prove your theory right, just like the "professionals" you keep denigrating.
The answer is: you know it's a full Moon when the Moon is opposite the Sun. You know it's a new Moon when the Sun and Moon are together. So going on that, I guess you can see the logic of looking to the Sun as to where the moon is. Yes, I'm attempting to prove my theory, just like the other pro's. Thanks for at last considering me a pro. About time some people woke up and realised you don't need a book out to be a good astrologer. This has been tested against the sports results, something which is hard to manipulate, but can be manipulated, especially when they don't want sport to be predicted.

Coffee | This is fairly easy to understand. Work out if the moon is full or new by looking to see if the moon is within 90 degrees either side of the Sun (NEW) or not within 90 degrees of the Sun (FULL) Then look at the degree of the Sun. If the Moon is NEW, the Moon is fixed on that degree of the Sun. If the Moon is FULL, the moon is fixed on the exact opposite degree of the Sun. And yes, this may go against some of your teachings, but when you think about this, it's as logical as a calculator. |
amowls** | Okay but all of this still doesn't tell me why you chose to use the Sun instead of the Moon to determine my Mom's birth. The MOON is my 2nd house ruler, the SUN is my 3rd house ruler, so the results could just determine circumstances surrounding her health (3rd is 6th from 10th), not her birth. Like, this whole thread is about how you can determine a Full or a New Moon using the Sun not why you would use the Sun in place of the Moon when interpreting transits. I don't consider you a pro, but I do consider you a bit hypocritical (or perhaps bad at explaining yourself). |
Coffee | The why is done by looking at how you determine a full or new moon, which is by looking at the Sun's position, as well as the moon. The logic follows on from that. Did I not answer your question there? |
Lonake | Lots of misinformation here. |
Coffee | Can you please be more specific Lonake? If so please do. You can answer yes to the original question and leave it at that, as that would be the response of a smart arse like I can be Do you think this is possible taking into account how you find a full or new moon? |
