T O P I C R E V I E WXiiroBy "odd aspects" I mean an aspect which is not generally made between certain signs, being made in your natal chart.Example:My Saturn squares Venus, but because Venus is 29 degrees and Saturn is 00 degrees, they square in signs which "generally" sextile.Venus Scorpio 29Saturn Virgo 00Do you have any of these aspects in your chart and how do they effect you? CapriquariusI can't think of one in my own chart but my father has an out-of-sign trine between his Moon in 1 Gemini and Saturn in 29 Virgo. It reflects his relationship with his mother: he tries to please her (trine) but it feels off to him, because the signs are in different elements and Saturn is in the critical 29th degree. As a result, he gives her what she demands (money) but can't stand being around her. It's like, "There ya go, now leave me alone." You'd think that Moon trine Saturn would mean responsibility towards the mother (which he is) or something along those lines but that lack of elemental connection makes for an uncomfortable dynamic.hannaramaa quote:Originally posted by Capriquarius:I can't think of one in my own chart but my father has an out-of-sign trine between his Moon in 1 Gemini and Saturn in 29 Virgo. Are the signs in different elements but around 120 degrees apart? Then yeah you have an out-of-sign trine. For an aspect to function most powerfully, it needs to meet two criteria: the elemental connection and the harmonic.BelligerentPygmy quote:Originally posted by Capriquarius:I can't think of one in my own chart but my father has an out-of-sign trine between his Moon in 1 Gemini and Saturn in 29 Virgo. I don't think it's the fact that the conjunction is out of sign that's doing it.VenusDiSiriusI do have the odd aspect... But it is working just fine, fully trine, instead of quincunx.Capriquarius quote:Originally posted by BelligerentPygmy: You just mentioned responsibility or a sense of duty (Saturn) in connection to the mother figure (moon) - it sounds like it plays out in a pretty textbook sense to me.Now, if he has a strong Aquarian or Uranian bent somewhere in his chart, that might be what's causing the sense of discomfort - because he wants to feel free, but feels he has all these obligations to her. Even though others (e.g. mistress, represented by Venus not in contact with Saturn) were also making demands.I was involved with a guy whose Moon-Saturn trine (with Uranus opposition to the moon) was in the same element and he describes his mother as very easygoing. No financial obligation to her, as she was a single mother who developed her own career. They were in earth signs, but so is my dad's Saturn. But these are just two cases. All I know is that I read (in "Astrology: Understanding the Birth Chart" by Kevin Burke") that an aspect needs to meet the harmonic and elemental components to be at its strongest. Oh, and I've experienced an out-of-sign trine in synastry (Aquarius and Virgo, 2 degree orb) and we could not see eye-to-eye on things any better than in the 12 deg Aries- 27 deg Virgo rising combo I had in another relationship. They were both way too outgoing for my comfort. I think the common element is more important than the harmonic in synastry.EDIT: The trine is supposed to feel comfortable and my papa doesn't seem to feel very comfortable with his mom or mine. I think the difference in element reflects that.
Example:
My Saturn squares Venus, but because Venus is 29 degrees and Saturn is 00 degrees, they square in signs which "generally" sextile.
Venus Scorpio 29Saturn Virgo 00

You'd think that Moon trine Saturn would mean responsibility towards the mother (which he is) or something along those lines but that lack of elemental connection makes for an uncomfortable dynamic.
