dysfunctionalmystic | If you are copying and pasting text from anywhere on the internet please remember to provide a link back to the original source. If you copy and paste large amounts of texts and especially without crediting the author ~ it's copyright infringement. The standard acceptable length to copy is usually a very good sized paragraph. If you have permission directly from the author then obviously it's fine but otherwise be courteous and give credit where it is due |
ElizabethO | I wish I could like the above post. |
lalalinda | Thank You dysfunctionalmystic I believe the correct way is to put the link first and then a paragraph or two. That way the reader can refer to the original text. |
dysfunctionalmystic | ElizabethO ~ Thanks Lalalinda ~ I thought it was link at the top but wasn't sure on that.
For me ,it's not just the copyright issue. It helps to know the source so that those who like to research can check out other work done by the author. I do actually know of an astrologer who pursued a blogger for infringement. It was all innocent enough but the astrologer in question was beyond irritated and I could understand why. |
DepTaurus | very nice post |
RegardesPlatero | Always good to have a reminder about this! I try to always post a link/give credit, but if I have not, it's due to oversight and not intentionally doing so. |
Randall | Due to some recent court cases over the matter, we can legally reproduce whole articles if we can show that the content is relevant to the site; however, I feel doing so is in bad decorum (but we are protected legally if it happens), and a link should always be posted. Most authors are glad to have their stuff out there, but I have also deleted coprighted material at their request and will always do so no questions asked. |
anongrl10 | I can't begin to tell you how many times I have wanted to post a similar reminder. I work in academia, and you can actually discredit someone for life if they copied and pasted your stuff online without your permission or without proper citation reference. Please respect the copyright status of those whose original ideas you use here and in any other place. Someone belabored to think, write, distribute this information that you copied without crediting them and that's equivalent to stealing someone's money or purse. The info belongs to the original author. You can use it if you proper give credit where credit is due.
