T O P I C R E V I E WhannaramaaI remember someone mentioning this in a thread a few weeks back, and then my physician told me that today as well. So I'm wondering, how OFF could our birth times be? Minutes? Hours? Surely our birth times are recorded within an hour of our birth, yes?AriesLilithMaybe you can ask your mother to see if she remembers the time?Or you can try to rectify your birth time by matching the major life events with progression of ascendant or something like that (I'm no familiar with this so maybe someone else can tell?)?lalalindaThe correct time is important and an hour can change the dynamics of the Natal. The Ascendant moves approx. one degree every 4 minutes. This varies according to each sign and has to do with Long and Short ascension. If you're not sure, try rectification.------------------"For all those who believe, expect a miracle.” Linda Goodman 1925-1995hannaramaaI've always known what birth time was recorded but come to find out birth times are only sometimes accurate. There's so much going on in the delivery room that birth time accuracy is a low priority, so it happens someone just glances at the clock, calls it, and that's that. So I was wondering if anyone (Hera, maybe?) knows how that process works in the delivery room… if they're allowed to let a half hour pass / hour pass before calling the birth time.chargeomentumIt's impossible to tell actually. Really, it must depend on when you think a person is born. I don't know much about birth of a person, but I personally think when he sticks out his head out of mother he is born. It's a matter of opinion I think.Of course sometimes the birth time can be false or even faked. I don't know if I was born exactly on april 15, 15:15, but they say I was. It might be that they wanted to make my birth time be special or something. Maybe not.JinniWhen my sister was born nurses were so busy that they forget to mark birth time so they just put something as a birth time so her birth time can be off even half an hour- hour. Mine should be pretty accurate but I have very early ascendant so if my birth time is marked even so little than two minutes later than it actually is then my ascendant would be Scorpio not Sagittarius, but there is no way to find out. I assume that most of the birth times are some minutes off because it is not the main priority there.12muddyHmm not sure if this would be of help, but yah I know some midwives and they say that sometimes doctors and midwives "round" up the birth time, especially with non-digital clocks. In the cases of difficult births, the accuracy of birth times will be even more vague (often recorded late n are based on the docs/midwives' memories), they'll be focused on the conditions of the mothers and babies first. A few said that it depended on the hospitals, some hospitals are more particular about the accuracy of birth time.I didn't ask for the exact process. Other people and I go with my recorded birth time. But I was a C-section baby n it was a difficult birth. So there is room for doubt. I'm so cappyUnfortunately it's true. Taking care of the baby and mother is more important than the accuracy of the TOB. I use the time my mother supposedly saw on the wall clock but it's been a long time plus she tends to be imprecise with minutes. On the other hand, even if I go check my tob in the office it'll still be more or less incorrect. That sucks. I have no doubt I'm a Virgo riser but my Moon is on the cusp, sing and house-wise, and I'd like to be 100% sure where it is exactly. 15 mintues more and it would be oficially in the next sign. Also, I have Neptune barely in the 5th house. 5 mintues are enough to change it, same with the Moon's house. Ehhh.------------------I'm sooo happy! I mean, cappy.Alma SunYeah that's true! I think mines could be off a few mins. On birth certificate it reads 2:13, mom says my birth was around 2:15, dad says between 2:10 - 2:20 and grams said around 2:15 as well. It doesn't change much so it's ok for me. I do feel like my Sun may be in the 3rd though, instead of being in the end of 2nd house.Oh, and there's also people who count the cutting of the umbilical as the time of birth, and others who count as soon as the baby starts coming out of their mothers. ------------------"When I get sad, I stop being sad and be awesome instead." — Barney StinsonDelilah423One of the more interesting stories about this, to me, is the issue of Beatle George Harrison's birth time. Supposedly, his birth record and his mother claimed he was born about 12:10 a.m. on 2/25. Astrologers (whether they were actually hired by him I don't know) rectified it to 2/24 at 11:42 or 11:52.I wish I knew the true story, but since he and his parents are dead and few of us mere mortals would have been able to talk to either of them about it during their lifetimes...I will probably never know for certain whether my ASC is Scorpio or Sagittarius, but I'm going with Sag since that's what my BC says.KeroseneYeah like 9:00 or 9:20 9:15 seems like rounded likes.9:17 seems close to accurate etc. m.bladeThis is an issue I am also facing. I am not sure whether Mars is in 11th or 12th.My birth time is supposedly 16:50, as said by the hospital but I would assume this is just a rough estimate and it seems quite rounded because really, who's got time to write an accurate time of birth when your helping a woman give birth? My mother's estimate was off by about an hour. (Her estimate gave me a Sag rising)The hospital itself estimated 16:50 and after checking transits for various events in my life, I think my birth time may be 16:33 but I am still unsure.IMoppedtheFloor quote:Originally posted by hannaramaa:I remember someone mentioning this in a thread a few weeks back, and then my physician told me that today as well. But I'm imagining that checking out the baby doesn't take that long, so the amount of time it's off by is probably not that big, provided the person was born in an actual hospital (where the staff is usually on top of their game and gets everything done in a hurry). But yeah sometimes just a few minutes can change the ascendant and/or moon, if you're being born during that foggy time period where one changes to the next. This is why I'm saying over in that Levine thread that Adam probably isn't an Aqua rising. I'm like 'no way, that time is off'.IMoppedtheFloor quote:Originally posted by 12muddy:Hmm not sure if this would be of help, but yah I know some midwives and they say that sometimes doctors and midwives "round" up the birth time, especially with non-digital clocks. I think in the case of more difficult/dangerous births it's the reverse and you're more likely to get an accurate birth time because they're checking the clock like mad to make sure they get you out in time!I remember my mom saying they had to go in and get me out (I have the lopsided face to prove it, probably due to the handy forceps). With C-sections and my situation they go in and get you and have to monitor the time like crazy because if your'e in there too long there's all kinds of extra complications that can happen or even kill you, so in certain scenarios I think the time they give is more like to be extremely accurate because they were fighting the clock. My registered birth time is 7:49 pm CDT and honestly it's an odd enough number (not rounded off) that when you factor in that and the circumstances surrounding my birth I really don't question whether or not my natal chart is correct.Delilah423It's also going to depend upon when and where you were born. The younger you are, the more likely you are to have an accurate time recorded, I would think.
Or you can try to rectify your birth time by matching the major life events with progression of ascendant or something like that (I'm no familiar with this so maybe someone else can tell?)?
