T O P I C R E V I E WOdetteWhat aspects could make a person strongly focused on gender differences, and always interested in reading/writing about and discussing gender-related things? For example - what natal aspects would you expect the writer of a dating book to have? And what natal aspects would their target audience have? Lavender CrystalSwanOne of my best friends is very passionate about this topic. She is very dedicated to breaking gender roles and gender stereotypes. She has a Leo Sun/Venus conjunction, Aquarius Moon, Aries Asc and Libra Mars.TempuraNostrilSun or moon inconjunct Venus or Mars.Kerosene^I have sun/moon conjunct venusLike every influential in my life has been female.I don't dislike most guys but it's always something with them idk. I Inherently find men to be as entertaining company as women.Either they are threatened by me/or they are confused, or just not interested in having anything to do with me.Which is sad because I'm so extra and wild and just really laid backWhile they are so stiff most of the time, trying to be cool.So okay be a swag fag lol.. that's attractive. while Im like looking like i walked off a runway.I can really be a useful asset to them.. No dude.... you want me to be your friend lolOkay rant over. You know I will say with queer men there is some jealousy but I've made an effort to not be so frosty. When people say EVERYONE IS JEALOUS OF ME,It's not because just your pretty. It's because you seem like a ***** too.So they just don't like you pretty ***** lolGeneral I get along with other Venusian men.Libran and taurus guys. We just get so turnt up.Aqua-Libra-Taurus guys always fun to party with. The only problem I have with men are sexiest ones.I will automatically hate you. With me Gender is something I can't escape even though I want to..It's always like shoved in my face. not just online.Like wtf your going hold a door for her but not for meRUDE lolLibcapHmmm good question. Libra emphasis I think because of their egalitarian natures. Aries sun and moon women . Probably Aquarius emphasis in the chart too. Gemini writers I notice tend to write about the dualism of sexuality gender too. Air sign emphasis. I notice many Sagittarius suns and moons talk about gender issues. Dating stuff Libra and Taurus because of Venus. Maybe Virgo because they're good discriminatorS. They like to discriminate about who would be good to date or not analytical. They make dating a science. Lotis WhiteI'm interested in this topic. Men and women actually do have quite different brains in terms of structure and operation in certain ways (hormones while the baby is in the womb influence brain development). It's proven. Gender differences are not just 'socialization'. However, there is also variation from brain to brain among individuals. Some males will have slightly more 'female' brains then average, while some females will have slightly more 'male' brains then average. In general though, most women have primarily female brain characteristics, while most men have mostly male brain characteristics. The are always exceptions to the rule. But it's also true that a lot of common place stereotypes apply when it comes to analyzing the gender in the population as a whole. Some people are actually upset by this reality. They seem to think the gender differences are 'bad'(in the 70's/80's it was popular to say that men and women were only different physically but mentally they are the same: these days science has shown this is just not true). I say embrace it. Men and women balance each other. I remember hearing about some type of study a while back where they found the male/female teams were actually more effective at finding solutions to problems the all female, or all male teams. Maybe our bodies and minds are different for a reason. In western society feminine characteristics seem to have been devalued in favor of masculine ones. It's considered 'better' to be aggressive and rational, rather then gentle and compassionate. Western culture also seems to favor extroversion over introversion (Interestingly, in a lot of Asian cultures it's actually the opposite, and reserved is thought better then loud. Being reserved is considered a sign of wisdom and discretion, and opposed to being 'silly' and loud). There seem to be a lot of women who wish they were more 'male' then they actually are because they get the impression this is 'better' from the media and such. I'm talking here about only some people, not all, before anyone gets upset. I think what's considered 'better' is subjective and has nothing to do with the intrinsic value of people.I personally like that men and women are different, and the some people are quiet while others are loud. The variety within the human race is what makes life interesting! Barbare and Allen Pease have written quite a few interesting books on this gender differences topic, including the brain stuff. As for my chart... sign degreeAsc Sagittarius 25°07 Sun Capricorn 5°48 in house 1 Moon Cancer 29°14 in house 8 Mercury Sagittarius 22°38 end of house 12 Venus Sagittarius 29°41 in house 1 Mars Leo 10°03 in house 9 Jupiter Cancer 0°26 in house 7 Saturn Virgo 0°18 in house 9 Uranus Scorpio 15°07 end of house 11 Neptune Sagittarius 16°35 in house 12 Pluto Libra 16°32 in house 11 True Node Libra 10°51 in house 11 Venus is in the 1st house and opposite Jupiter in the 7th (Jupiter rules my Sagittarius Asc), Venus also trines Saturn in the 9th house (Saturn rules my Capricorn Sun). I think Moon in the 8th house contributes to an interest in the psychology of gender differences. PixieJaneIf you include magazines like Cosmopolitan and the many like them then the question is who ISN'T. Because those magazines have a wide readership that rakes in the profits, they love discussing it, and recommending those books and interviewing their authors for more tips. I was amused in reading a letter to an editor about how the magazine always knew what she wanted to read that month because they pretty much put out about the same thing every issue (with a few popular culture references relevant to that month). Many such magazines (often international) meant to appeal to a specific gender are put out by the successful Hearst who profit in the BILLIONS (which translates as a lot of interested readers/viewers who accept the paradigm). It's not just women, there are all sorts of dating advice for men (many of them scams) being sold as well. I've even gotten a few offers sent to my inbox to buy how to seduce any woman. At least a few men's magazines also have advice columns for men, though typically (but not always) written by women, that also emphasize the "men are from mars and women are from venus" paradigm. And it's not limited to dating, either, various religions and ideologies also focus on gender differences (though not necessarily to establish superiority of one over the other). Gender differences are often examined scientifically as well with varying results. Many polls are also divided by gender. And so on. Your question seems to assume that this is the exception to the rule when it's actually a rule of thumb. Doux RêveLotis Personally I believe that men and women are inherently different, and there's a reason for that (attraction is based on the differences, which are complimentary - like two parts of a whole - the Yin and the Yang, if you will).I think "gender equality" can never be complete - there's always gonna be fundamental differences that separate men and women (biologically, mentally and emotionally, at least). Socially, that's a different matter.ETA:Re: topic of the thread: People with a Venus/Mars aspect, maybe?OdetteThanks for the replies!I agree with Libra and Scorpio influence.. That's what I've noticed myself. quote:If you include magazines like Cosmopolitan and the many like them then the question is who ISN'T.Well I did say "strongly" interested and "strongly focused on"... Who isn't? Many are not so strongly interested. They might have a superficial/casual interest..that is sideline to other things in their life.OdetteOn LL so many people don't mention or get involved in gender-related arguments/debates/conversations on a daily basis. I do fairly often and a bunch of others do as well... but not the majority of posters. So I guess for some (or even many) people it's not something they are so deeply focused on. I have Venus conjunct NN and Venus opp Pluto.. Moon and Mars/Neptune in the 7th and my Sun in Aries.. so that goes along with the Libra/Scorpio/Aries pattern.I could see why these signs (and their rulers) would be prominent in the charts if those who are centred on these issues.PixieJaneThe "target audience" of dating gurus and the like is vast, and there's a lot of interest and even obsession with such manuals, courses, magazines, talk shows, videos. Someone who goes on and on about it or actually writes a book or teaches a course may be unusual, but those interested in what they have to say, and in accepting gender differences, are not. OdetteForget the target audience thing... I meant the latter:"Someone who goes on and on about it or actually writes a book or teaches a course"Lotis White quote:Originally posted by Odette:Thanks for the replies!I agree with Libra and Scorpio influence.. I think its easy for the genders to point fingers at each other and say "you have it easier" because they only consider the pros and not the cons. For example: a woman sees a man getting promoted to a position of leadership and thinks he has it so good. But she doesn't realize that people expect a lot out of him and are less likely to help him out because they assume he can handle it because he is a man. Society definitely has this attitude towards men. This is why people are a lot less likely to stop and help a man when he is stranded on the side of the road because his car broke down and its also why the majority of homeless charities are aimed at women even though the majority of the homeless population are men. Yes men are treated with more "respect" but that comes with heavy costs. Alot of men would probably tell you its very lonely to be a man because people just assume you can handle anything. On the flip side society tends to kind of treat women like children and expect less of them. A lot of women get ticked off by this and its understandable. But is all bad? Even though society favors men with responsibility more because of this , its also the reason people have a lot more compassion for women in general and are more likely to extend a helping hand to them. Its also the reason most of the cancer research is aimed at breast cancer, women get 40% less jail time than men for committing the same crime, and government assistance programs are aimed towards women just to name a few.OdetteAG - Would you please be able to keep the entirely non-astrological 'blah' out of this thread? Thanks!
