T O P I C R E V I E WappleberryWhen doing a natal chart for someone (via Astrodienst), which gender do you choose for them - the birth gender, or the gender after transition?Tofu addictI choose the birth genderPixieJaneThe gender they chose, but only for the sake of pronouns. I don't think it matters which you choose beyond that (so if using a program by myself and I was going to put it into my own words anyway I wouldn't mess with the gender anymore than I had to).I notice plenty do see a difference between the genders when it comes to placements, but often times when they explain the details of it I've noticed they explain about the same traits in both, only they react to those traits differently depending on whether it's a man or a woman (and that's before the societal training, environmental factors, etc kick in which are also going to tweak it a certain way, though not the transgendered in the same way). For example, I saw one post on LL that said she liked Aries (this may have actually been Aries Mars rather than sun, I forget) men because they were assertive, but didn't like Aries women because they were pushy. appleberryYes, there are definitely points for both ways. In life, I choose to see Transgender people in the way they see themselves, so if they were born female but are transing to male, I deem them male. For astrology though, what do you do? As the inner choice of a person seems to correlate with an inner energy and direction, I suppose it might make sense to not choose the body's birth gender, but the inner gender that the Trans person knows themselves to be... I think. I suppose the best answer would come from a transgender person who studies astrology themselves. I think their answers would be the wisest to follow since they understand the issues more personally.
