\The square works much the same way. The only difference being that there is disagreement between the two energies as to "how" to effectively express the frustration felt.
With all Pluto/Mars aspects, there is usually a strong force that compels one to act(Mars) in a definitive way(Pluto) i.e You p*** me off(Mars), I will build a wall so high that you will never climb over(Pluto).
But as per the analogy used, walls not only keep things "out". They also separate the individual and keep them "in"(ironically imprisoning them too).
So the square is often tension. Like someone who clenches their fist and grinds their teeth when someone is chastising them i.e you can tell that the anger is far more deeply rooted than what the other person is chastising them over.
Eventually however, the tension gets too much and goes beyond snapping. And it is usually something "small" that tips the scale over. Maybe you accidentally burned their eggs or lost something of theirs? etc. Then all HELL explodes with thunderous fire.
Not only are they to express their anger as to what's going on NOW. But they will also express their anger to what has been going on ALL of their life i.e them being put down by others, letting people get away with taking advantage of them, the cashier who shortchanged them etc.
There is something about Pluto/Mars anger that is just "extra". It wants absolute expression and a no holds barred venting for all its past frustrations and feelings of being invalidated.
Mars is essentially a planet that is like a knife. It cuts(whether this is intentional or unintentional).
Mars also rules the basic , primal ego of survival. Leo is the more evolutionary ego or an ego that seeks to "evolve" beyond human instincts and become "divine".
So when Mars touches a planet, it tends to infuse its ego and "cutting" instincts in that planet.
With Mars, not only is the knife cutting others. But the knife also "cuts" them(the owner). So that is why people with Mars on Sun /Moon /Mercury /Venus often respond defensively and sometimes even violently.
So Pluto/Mars in aspect is like Mars on steroids(Pluto). In that the Mars knife is sharpened constantly, feels itself being "cut" by others constantly. Until eventually it explodes and beheads all in its path(whether "friend" or "foe").Pluto when angry is indiscriminate.
I always would encourage those who have Pluto-Mars in aspect even by sextile/trine,to take on a long-term project that seeks to rectify an injustice or redo an imbalance of some sort.
They should use their enormous reserves of energy to back a cause or support something that they believe will build society etc.
When they direct all of this passion OUTSIDE the home environment. Pluto/Mars can do miracles. And they can also prevent it manifesting as them being the abuser or them being abused within relationships of a more intimate nature.
If you watch the movie "Falling Down" with Micheal Douglas. That is the Pluto/Mars square individual on a war path.
An external "gentleman"(I suspect Mars in Taurus/Libra) with a suit and tie that is pushed to the brink and turns extremely violent(square hypothetical Pluto Leo/Cancer respectively).
