-------------------------Standing
Out in the white earth blanket
Smoking
Red wine
can't feel the icy air
Across the road
A tiny glimmer lies
Just a twinkle on the ground
Frozen in time
A snowflake catches my eye
I stare at it
Intently
As if some answer lies there
A light
A sparkling glimpse of life
drives past
homeward bound?
Into the night to some destination
It's cold distraction
cannot dim the twinkle
of one flake
A light
The glow from a bedroom window
of that white farm house
with it's massive red barn
My eyes dart to the trees
Their branches heavy
weighed down with snow
like the death of something
...just hibernation
Nature taking a break from creation
That reflection still bright
from one snowflake
If I move toward it
it will vanish forever
I tilt my head
Right
with a grin of appreciation
A silent laugh
of adoration
The spindly fingers of life
Grasping at the stars
Directing them lovingly
Like the guiding hand behind children
Exhale
Never losing sight
of that one particle
The eerie sound of winter music
The wind
blowing sharply through the branches
The inaudible fall
of snow from the sky
I know when I leave it
The spark will dissapear
buried beneath the chill of millions
...but it's simple smile
That tiny silver wink
will live in me
even when spring comes
and melts this blanket
Into mud...
