T O P I C R E V I E WListensToTrees Once upon a time in northern India, there lived a violent and fearsome outcast called Angulimala ('necklace of fingers'). He terrorised towns and villages in order to try to gain control of the state, murdering people and adding their fingers to his gruesome necklace. The Buddha set out to meet Angulimala, and with the power of love and compassion he persuaded him to renounce violence and take responsibility for his past actions. Thus Angulimala was transformed. The Buddha and The Terrorist brings a message for our time about the importance of looking for the root causes of violence, and of finding peaceful means to end terror. In the Prologue, called 'Talking to Terrorists', Satish Kumar discusses how we can best deal with the phenomenon of international terrorism.------------------ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCJR78ahrgIhttp://www.divinecosmos.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=305&Itemid=85www.myspace.com/lostinstrangeworld ListensToTrees"Peace cannot be kept by force. It can only be achieved by understanding". -Albert EinsteinEleanoreI don't know exactly how Bush and Blair would be affected by reading that story (who does?) and I can't be sure that it would create a positive influence in them or in the world (though one hopes it would). Reading a book does not a Buddha make and, imo, you can't exactly force "enlightenment" on a person. But I admire the story and I think it would be a valuable experience for our world if any self-procalaimed Buddhas or Buddha-esque persons committed themselves to attempting the same right now. If there was ever a time to really make peace (and not conflict veiled as peace) shine, this would be it, worldwide. Looking forward to the day when these spiritual persons can walk faithfully, peacefully and unarmed into conflict and resolve all these situations with purely Love. My only question is, with all that is at stake, what are they waiting for?ListensToTreesIt's a shame that wisdom is not an essential qualification to those who govern countries.Maybe one day things will change.Hopefully all this stuff about the earth being aligned with the galactic center in 2012 and doorways being opened into other dimensions depending on where people want to go.....hopefully there is some truth in it because I'm sick and tired of all the nonsense in this world! I don't see why I should detach myself from things either- we are all interconnected. There's no point dwelling on things we can't change, but we should acknowledge what goes on and do whatever we can to help.
