Catalina | In a nation up in arms about immigrants, tho their forebears were just that, the original residents' vote is now being targetted on a technicality created by reservation status. http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow/watch/native-americans-rallying-to-overcome-gop-obstacles-to-voting-1345088067862 and this bill will of course not come up for vote before midterms http://patch.com/oklahoma/oklahoma-city/native-american-voting-rights-act-introduced-congress

shura | Native tribal members were the original United States citizens? Say again? |
Catalina | Did i say that? Did you read what i did say? |
shura | "In a nation" . blah blah something about immigrants .. "the original residents" ? |
jwhop | More claptrap and nonsense from the faux Indian Princess, Pocahontas. No one is denying American Indians the right to vote in elections. Far left demorat lunatics are never happy unless they can find something to pi$$ and moan about. If they can't find anything, they'll invent something...like Native Americans being denied the right to vote. Please, a show of hands here by anyone who believes members of Native American tribes don't know they have the right to vote. |
Catalina | Oh they know all right. |
jwhop | quote: Originally posted by Catalina: Oh they know all right.
Then there's no need for the faux Indian Princess, Pocahontas to introduce a bill in the Senate to secure their voting rights...which they already have. Another fraudulent attempt to stir up controversy. |
Catalina | Did you read it? I believe Udall introduced it she co sponsored |
Catalina | http://www.daily-times.com/story/news/local/nav ajo-nation/2018/10/08/bill-seeks-equal-access-native-american-voters/1539712002/ They have the right to vote but provisions making that vote feasible are not fulfilled in the states with the highest NA populations. This kind of legal hairsplitting is transparent enough. Efforts are ongoing to overcome the barriers put in place to make exercising their right difficult. |
jwhop | "Efforts are ongoing to overcome the barriers put in place to make exercising their right difficult." Utter and complete BS. Voting Rights Act of 1965 The Voting Rights Act of 1965 (42 U.S.C.A. § 1973 et seq.) prohibits the states and their political subdivisions from imposing voting qualifications or prerequisites to voting, or standards, practices, or procedures that deny or curtail the right of a U.S. citizen to vote because of race, color, or membership in a language minority group.

Catalina | Sure they have the right.. if they can get "proper" addresses -and additional verifications before voting deadlines.. if they can get to the remotely placed polling stations..if if if.. Meanwhile in georgia, where polling stations have been vanishing into thin air, a bus carrying a load of seniors to exercise their right to vote.. was supposed due to " suspected political activity".. http://www.newsweek.com/40-black-senior-citizens-told-get-bus-taking-them-vote-it-was-intimidation-1173940?fbclid=IwAR37ay7-iwO3FEoN8NI4T2a3N-U28sgGjtuopEZnQc4ui0s7JuC1uC5NDpo They also have the right to vote.. are they supposed to pay to exercise that right? Or hitch rides? How far away is your polling station? If you didn't have a car could you get there without spending money and a day to get there? The right to vote includes the provision of facilities to do so, not included in your quote from 1965. Which act has been hobbled somewhat in recent years |
jwhop | Oh good, now you want states and localities to send election personnel to individual addresses to notify voters where to vote, when to vote and personally ferry voters to their personal polling locations. Lost in your nonsense is any responsibility of voters to find out where to vote, when to vote and get themselves to the proper location...on the appointed date. In some mysterious way, people all over America manage to get themselves to grocery stores, movie theaters and every other place they want to go. So, with at least 6 months prior notice of voting dates and locations, why is voting different? Anyone who is eligible to vote and wants to vote can take the time to find out when and where to vote and make themselves available to do so. Just another bullshiite issue for leftist lunatics to pi$$ and moan about. |
Catalina | The voters who had got on that bus to go vote were stopped. Or did you miss that?suspected of political activity No one asked the state to provide transport, but one might expect them to be allowed to make the trip. Again, how far do you have to travel by bus to vote? Why should poor people not have polling stations within a reasonable distance? The reservation residents don't have street addresses and they don't live near registration places OR polls. So for them to vote in this election they have to make two trips, pay money for new ID if they can present the exact docs required, and deal with hostile locals who don't like a bunch of Redskins descending on their town. 6 months notice? This was decided by the SC on 9 October. Do you think living in the reserve in ND is like Madeira Beach, where a stroll around the corner or a hop in your car takes you to all the fun pastimes that a lot of people can't afford even if they could get there? I have a hatpin if you want to crawl out of your bubble someday And when they do all that is demanded..will they be allowed, or ordered off the bus like the Georgia voters in the story?
|
jwhop | Just more bullshiite piled on bullshiite. If people on reservations wanted to vote...in their own community, they would and could have their own polling place in which to vote. Here's one in New Hampshire that serves a community of only 12 people...per the census. It's Dixville Notch, New Hampshire. "Dixville Notch is an unincorporated community in Dixville township, Coos County, New Hampshire, United States. The population of the township, all of whom live in Dixville Notch, was 12 at the 2010 census. So let's hear no more about people living so far away from a polling station they can't get there. If they really wanted to vote, there would be a polling place in their community. All they really need to do is ask their Supervisor of Elections in their voting district. More tales of woe to obsess over by leftists who have way too much free time on their hands. We know what all this caterwauling is really about. George Soros and his merry little band of leftist lunatics want internet voting and/or telephone voting. Whatever creates the best opportunity for voter fraud. My polling place is about a mile and a half from my home. A 15 minute walk..or 5 minutes by car...with all the traffic lights and stop signs. |
Catalina | Polling places are not the only problem but then North Dakota is not ne Hampshire either. And reservations are not towns but never mind tmi i'm sure. In some parts of Georgia the controllers are shutting down polling places like they're afraid they might be used 😳🙄😒... but i'm sure the locals asked them to be removed, right? But not to worry, the tribes are on it. Not sure how those black folk in georgia are gonna find an invisible bus to get to the polls without the authorities stopping them again but there's nothing like a little obstruction to motivate people is there? Of course the Repubs can always pretend those people complaining are really corpses.. |
shura | Cat, maybe stop taking about Native tribe members like they were morons. |
Catalina | Shura, maybe stop talking to me as if i said something i didn't. Who do you think brought the lawsuit that was finally knocked back by the SC less than a month before voting day? Who did i say was on the case? Its not I who claim that Soros & co are misleading the poor little minorities and dumbasf*** liberals. Nor I who suggested that the tribes are just too dumb or lazy to ASK for local polling places. Nor I who think it's grand to railroad over court orders to build pipelines. |
