T O P I C R E V I E WalchemiestHave any of you read the book 'Juicing for Life'? It is the most awesome book ever!!! I've been re-reading it over the past few days (mum's forcing me to clean up my bookshelf- you will not believe the things I am finding there! It's wonderful!!!)Anyway, this book is the perfect helper for all aspiring fruitarians/vegetarians or even just people who want to detox. I got mine years and years ago (well, to be fair, mum got it, I think and I claimed it a few years ago), but it sells for $12 or 13 in the states at present. A must read for all health freaks! alchemiestAlso on the topic of healthy foods and juices and stuff: Seaweed in any form is supposed to be very good for your health, so I went out for some vegetarian sushi today. Yeah... I almost hurled right there in the restaurant cause it tasted so darned fishy! Do any of the other vegetarians out there face this problem of not being able to stomach even vegetarian food that resembles/tastes a bit like something non-vegetarian? What other vegetarian food that's more *ahem* appetizing do you think would have the same/similar theraputic properties, trace minerals, etc as seaweed? NikiSpeedyAhhh - yessssssssssssI make Carrot, Celery and Apple combo juice regularly - mmmmmmmmmmTINKCarrot with apple is my favorite. Yummy. NephthysHow does one "juice"? I have a juicer packed up in the garage and we have a couple of blenders. Please give me some sample recipes. I am vegetarian and I can't eat any "fake meat" because it looks and smells like the real thing !Ugh! Also I try not to buy anything "fakened" with Soy because I ate so much Soy that it depleted my thyroid and now I have "Hashimoto's Disease" which is AutoImmune Low Thyroid. TINKToo much soy can damage your thyroid?! Uh-Oh. Nephthys, could you fill me in? I'm a vegetarian too. I'm sure there are lots of traditional recipes for juicing. But frankly, I just throw in whatever I have available in the fridge. I try to mix the not so good tasting (celery, carrots) w/ the better, sweeter suff(apples, oranges). I also always do half juice mixed w/ half water. Otherwise my blood sugar tanks. Straight juice can pack on the pounds too. I learned this the hard way. tinkNephthysTink,Here is the article on Soy: http://www.mercola.com/article/soy/avoid_soy.htm You might want to print it to read it, it's very long but worth the read. NephthysDear alchemiest,Ok you sold me. I just ordered it used (in "like new" condition) off of Amazon......so I'm paying only $6.46 total including shipping (yes, I am a smart shopper, hee hee hee)....... My only concern is I don't want to have too much "sugar" because it makes me tired.....I can't wait to get the book, to help solve several health problems I have. NephthysThe book arrived yesterday and I started juicing last night. Last night I made carrot, apple, orange, and this morning I made carrot, red bell pepper, apple, orange. It was quite sweet. Anyhow I look forward to supplementing my diet with healthy juices now! alchemiestWonderful to hear you now have the book, Nepthys! I shouldn't worry too much about the sugar so long as you watch what else you eat, and also supplement the fruit juices with vegetable ingredients as well. Good luck for the juicing! I hope it helps you with your health problems
