T O P I C R E V I E WRegardesPlateroI am feeling really upset and frustrated right now. The world is just this big nasty toxic nightmare...ugh. Everything has SOMETHING bad in it.I have no idea how much of something you need for it to really harm you. NO ONE will answer that question straight-up. I'm never going to the site "thedailygreen.com" ever, ever, ever again because I feel so paranoid and anxious right now after reading it. I imagine it's like the feeling of wanting to have a cigarette. I'm going to go and de-stress. UGH. Sorry, I just really need to vent, and if anyone has any anti-stress tips about trying to buy products that won't kill you, won't make you sick, AND are affordable, please advise, because I am really stressing out right now. RandallThe human body is very resilient. We are bombarded by radiation 24 hours a day just from space...not to mention all of the redioactive products we have around us...even our foods. But keep your liver strong and your thoughts positive, and your body will flush out toxins very well. And it's probably a good idea to not microwave plastic frequently or to eat fish more than a few times a week, but for the most part your thoughts will make you sick more than most anything else that is just casually in our environment. ------------------"Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." Rebecca ClarkRegardesPlateroThanks, Randall.I'm feeling a bit calmer now (yay distractions!)It just seems like a never-ending battle. Try to avoid one thing, something else will get you.I do microwave plastic sometimes, but not a lot. Mainly, when it's the last bit of something and I don't feel like dirtying another dish, but again, not a whole lot. I'll try to get away from that. Mainly, my issue is with beauty products. I'm trying to make switches to healthier products. I did write to one company whose products I just started using. They've been very helpful so far when I've had other questions. I'm also having an issue with thedailygreen.com because they go ON and ON and ON about everything and make me super-anxious, yet brands of hand sanitizer that they recommend contain no-no ingredients, as do other things. Starting to seem less credible to me (the website).hippichick quote:Everything has SOMETHING bad in it.I have no idea how much of something you need for it to really harm you. On an ingredients list of anything, to my understanding, they are listed in the order of amounts (as in, the ingredient present in the highest amount is listed first). So, if there is a questionable ingredient, and it's listed last, wouldn't that mean a smaller amount? Is it even possible to avoid all bad things completely? I mean, I can't not wash my face or body or hair or hands. That's just disgusting, not to mention unsanitary. Not washing leads to other problems, such as infections. And, too, are ALL chemicals automatically "bad"?RegardesPlateroI also read another article that mentions that, in order for someone to be harmed by something, a person has to have a few things present within the body for that to happen. (I'd rather not quote the article entirely because the author of the site on which I found it made a very offensive comment about rape, so I am not a fan of him at all). Suffice to say that this is another point that deserves addressing. It also makes sense given that pretty much everyone I know uses personal care products with no-no ingredients, and of them, not one has cancer. Some of them have used them for far longer than I have, too. I really am starting to wonder if all of this hysteria and scare is just that--paranoia--and if perhaps the people leading the way on these scares are actually causing more problems by making people afraid. RegardesPlateroIf anyone has any input or insight or links, much obliged, as long as they do not contain graphic pictures or other things of that nature. That's another thing, too: how do you know who to believe? Both sides have "evidence" and both sides refute the other side. RegardesPlateroAnd, another question: what about duration? I personally don't just sit there and leave soaps on my body for long. Conditioner is the longest-sitting thing (besides lotion). So, what about that? If something is on your body for just a few seconds, and not in a large amount, how does that factor into things? And why is it that no "green" site ever mentions stuff about the liver taking care of things, differences in people's bodies, and stuff like that?Example: my grandfather and his brother (full-blood brothers) had very similar lifestyles, but two very different outcomes. My grandfather ended up dying 20 years before his brother. What gives? I mean, they are from the exact same parents, and we know that for sure. Why don't "green" sites or "naturopaths" ever mention stuff like that? RegardesPlateroYet another question, too. Not all things in nature/that are "natural" are good. There are some plants that are poisonous to humans. So, what about that? What about plants that are harmful? Is it really as simple as plants-good chemicals-bad? It reminds me of Napoleon and Animal Farm: "four legs good, two legs bad" (except birds, because tails count as legs to my recollection). And, really, what about chemicals that help people? Like medicines? And what about "natural" things that harm people/non-action that leads to people getting sicker or dying, such as people who believe in "faith healers" whose children die because they are not treated? What about that? RegardesPlateroIn trying to find a good natural shampoo, I am amused that so many recommendations contain sodium laurel sulfates.I mean, really, do any people actually look at the ingredient list from those "green" blogs/articles? Seriously?Another question: as to harmful ingredients, are some worse than others? That is, is it more important to avoid some ingredients than others? RegardesPlateroI just ordered some shampoo and conditioner. Ingredients list looked good. Also am trying out a new deodorant. I found one, but it's hit-and-miss about perspiration, so am going to try another. RandallAs far as food goes, always bless it before you ingest it. That's really what saying grace is--not only just giving thanks to God but also blessing the food, so it nourishes the body and does no harm. ------------------"Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." I will have to try to be mindful of that! I do pray to God for protection on other things.
