T O P I C R E V I E Wsunshine9Fellow knowflakes,I never thought I'd be writing for help gaining weight - since I never had trouble in the past - but now that I'm pregnant, I seem to be behind the curve in gaining an adequate amount of weight. I am a lacto-vegetarian who adds eggs in her diet very occasionally. I have other health concerns I'm watching - so I try to manage my diet for other factors as well like avoiding gestational diabetes. As of 25 weeks, I had gained only 8 lbs. - when they say by 24 weeks, you should have 12-15 lbs., if not more. The baby, thankfully, has been on target growth-wise, but it does worry me that I cannot seem to pick up weight like I should; I don't want it to end up affecting the baby. From 20 weeks onward, they say you should be gaining a lb. a week - and I have been fixed around 7-8 lbs. from 20 weeks onwards. That's the reason for my concern.I have been trying to incorporate more protein in my diet - but it is hard to stuff myself when my appetite isn't helping things much. I am trying to now drink 2-3 glasses of milk a day, 2 cups of yoghurt, get more peanut butter in my diet and dried beans several times a week. I got tofu the other day, and am really hoping all these things help - but am wondering if any of you have been in a similar situation - or have suggestions on how I can help myself even better. Thanks in advance!SunshineEllynlvxI was vegetarian when I was pregnant, and my daughter was the most beautiful child known to man.Quinoa is a complete protein.I found myself drawn to Life cereal, and since found out that it has folic acid in it, that is crucial to baby's health. I wish I had more to add to that, but I started eating meat again when I got pregnant with my son. You may already be doing this, but have you tried unflavored, full-fat Greek Yogurt? That helped me gain weight when I was a bit under (I tend to be rather thin, sometimes too much so). If you want to add something sweet to flavor it, you can always add fruit or just a small amount of honey? I've noticed that flavored yogurt often contains quite a bit of sugar.I was borderline with gestational diabetes when I was pregnant, but I cut out all sugar (ouch!), and my son was a standard, healthy weight when he was born.I definitely agree with nuts, too. Maybe with some full-fat cottage cheese and cashews/fruit, or something like that? Nuts always help me to gain weight as well. You can also try full-fat coconut milk smoothies with bananas. They are delicious (but very rich).
