T O P I C R E V I E WvirgotaurustaurusJust a curiosity of mine...those of you who work on your artwork a lot, do you do a lot of random sketches, test paintings, or anything else to just kind of keep your skills primed? I just began doing art again, and doing random sketches for fun is actually quite foreign to me. I used to always draw to have a perfect, finished product. I'm just wondering . I see a lot of other people's artwork, and the pieces all look perfect, and sometimes I wonder if they have 50 other paintings that they did that are only half finished or that they hated or just used as practice. lagladydon't aim for a perfect finished product.. you'll surely give up or resent being an artist.. if a picture isn't comming out as you planned.. well, maybe your creative mind wants you to take it in a different direction.draw a little every day.. be it a doodle in your notepad, or oil painting on a canvas.. RandallGood advice.------------------"Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." Rebecca ClarkMoonshine9It's funny, sometimes I use a lot of paper and sometimes not. It depends if I have something clearly in mind.I'm a photographer/painter/singer so sometimes after I take a picture if I want it a little bigger I'll sketch it using either watercolors, pastels, or pencils. If I don't like the way it came out, I just leave it alone and come back to it another day. That's just how I am. That's what I love about art. The spontaniety of it! The creating process!I'd love to hear more about what you are doing?I used to work at a place called Jellybean where I'd meet all these really interesting artists and they'd have their artwork photographed. I kinda miss the interaction!Peace and Love ghanima81If I tried to make all my art perfect the first time, I know I wouldn't enjoy it as much. I have sketchbooks filled with rough drafts and random sketches... I pretty much draw on anything if I'm inspired at that second to do so. Same goes for stories, poems and songs that I write. I have little pieces of paper tucked into notebooks with little blurbs on them. I can't let ideas just slip past, so I will jot them down on anything and keep them. I always end up with little collections of sentences in the bottom of my bag or in the glove box of my cars... I'm not the type of person that can sit down and go ''Okay, I'm going to write a whole story today. It's going to have a beginning, a middle, a climax, and an end.'' I kind of start a project, get what I can out of myself, then stop when the flow stops. I know I'll get back to something if it is meant to be finished, but if it's not, that's okay too. It's all about the process, whatever I felt at the time when I started some kind of creative outlet may not last, therefore I may not be able to finish it...Gah... I'm rambling now... and I keep hearing the ocean in my ears (cold medicine really messes with my equilibrium)... Anyways, I think it's cool if you dont' finish some things, and that you have lots of random pieces... very cool indeed!! Ghani26taurusHey VTT! I usually just do a sketch in my head. Lay it out in there and start to work on it. I wish I could work faster, I'm such a perfectionist, that I take forever when I work on something. And if I dont like it and there is no way to "fix" it, I throw it away.I'm working on a Labor of Love that has to do with watercolors at the moment. *crosses fingers* Hoping to make some money off of it. I'll probably start a string about it sometime. If it all pans out the way I'm hoping. Like I said, I wish I could work faster. But everything must be "perfect" and I usually go into so much detail.........*sigh*Wish me luck.pixelpixie 26taurusThanks pix! I'm almost finished with them. I'll probably put them up in the shop sometime next week. Hopefully they sell!*fingers crossed.....and toes* LOL JohnnyI seem to be able to nothing but sketches - somehow, I just can't follow through and finish a picture... Well, maybe once in a while, but mostly I just get drawn into the next, newer project before the old one's done. Sigh.FishtailThe Renaissance artists like Leonardo used to do preparatory skecthes in ink and chalk to explore the poses of his subjects before actually drawing with oil paints on canvas. Yet, his sketches can stand alone as drawings in this modern day era 'cos they are so good!! I try to have preps as well before drawings, but life is so busy, i hardly get to complete any as well :P I read about past lives in other posts, wonder which modern image has Leonardo and other artists have taken on in this day. Perhaps they have turned into politicians? heh... i wonder will their talents be submerged after they take on the life as another role in modern era? eightdegreesWill someone post how to put images in a post? pixelpixieI copied ths from my post over in Free For All, under "any Other Mouses awake"K, You go::::You right click the image, then under properties, its pathway will come up.You can only post something that is published on the web...So, if you have a cool image stored on your computer, you have to first go to a photoplace somewhere to upload it and then post it here....Hope I helped!eightdegreeseightdegreeswell that didn't work. arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
