AcousticGod | It's a little ironic to waste time at work while reading about wasting time at work. |

Dervish | Natch, companies want an office staffed with employees who work smoothly together but NOT them bonding together (though this is what makes effective team work possible in the first place) as that's "wasting time." And, natch, they'll figure in "goof off" time in the pay, but NOT all the wasted hours dealing with work and self-medicating (legally and otherwise) against the BS of it, or the hours spent off the clock to prepare for it/deal with it in other ways. Everybody wants to have their cake and eat it too. You know what I consider the biggest waste of time for most jobs? Showing up. |
LEXX | I was the odd one when I was factory employed. I took my job seriously and had a 0% scrap factor compared with others who ranged from 16% to 23% scrap. A job done right the first time leaves no redo hassles for later. I could never understand goofing off on the job. I always had enough heavy/technical work to stay very busy. Sigh....many hated me for being a perfectionist....I scored on Statistical Process Control 100% whilst others including management got under 66%. If people would pay attention to details and no one goof off...things would go smoothly. We would also see an improvement in the quality of products produced and services. I also understand down sizing when folks are fired or their employment terminated due to overstaffing. It amazes me when goof offs get upset when they lose their jobs when efficiency experts analyze the employees and deem some deadwood. Yes sometimes this weeding is unfair but usually it works. quote: Everybody wants to have their cake and eat it too.
I guess I was not one of the everybodies. Jobs are hard to come by....a job should be taken seriously. quote: because several people in my house work in the banking, law sector, whatever - and often don't have enough work to do.
The downsizing ax could get them if they do not have enough work to do. ------------------ Life is not about waiting for the storms to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain. |
Dervish | People who work hard and prove themselves should be respected by employers. That's often not the case. "Wage slave" is an apt name. That's why I work for myself. |
