T O P I C R E V I E WbigfootHello. Read "Star Signs" in the 80s and loved it. Ever since then, I've tried to meditate, but can't ever seem to. It's because my mind never shuts up. There's always something going through it. Music, thoughts, conversations, all kinds of things. So, my question would be this: How do I make my mind be still and quiet so I can finally meditate?RandallWelcome! ------------------"Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." Rebecca ClarkGiaThe harder you try to meditate the more resistance you'll have. It's normal to have a mind that never shuts up. It took me ages to be able to shut mine up. I still struggle now and then. This is how I was taught. I hope it helps. Start by allowing your mind to wander freely from one thing to another. Don't worry too much about anything, or think too deeply about any one thing in particular. Just relax, and let your mind loose. The first lesson is really about allowing you to be in a relaxed state of thought. It's also about allowing yourself time to think, and making it a ritual, so that you'll get used to thinking without doing. That's hard at first.Do this for awhile, at least 4 weeks.Next, give yourself one thing to think about for the duration of your entire meditation. If your mind starts to wander, which it will do, then bring it straight back to that One subject. I don't think it matters much if the odd stray thought trickles through, but it's the incessant chatter that must be silenced through concentration.Do this for another 4 weeks. Then I'd like you to light a candle and concentrate on the flame. It's truly quite amazing how much peace one gets just by observation without emotion. You become that precise moment.Do this another 4 weeks.Hopefully, by now, after all your PRACTICE, you will have mastered the art of living in a precise moment. You'll be leaning way from the external, and into the internal now.I wish you God speed.Always. GiaWould it be impolite to ask why you call yourself Bigfoot? Are you Native American?I have a very old and very dear friend of the same name.bigfootThanks! I'll try that. Hopefully I can get my act together and do it.It wouldn't be impolite to ask about my user ID. I chose 'bigfoot' because Bigfoot is just cool, and I hope to one day see one. According to my "4" status, I ought to see one sometime in my life.I'm not a Native American. I'm of European descent. I was born in Texas, and have lived there all of my life. Thanks again!pixelpixieBigfoot...Are you a Gemini or a Sagittarius?Alot of air in your chart?bigfootI am a Capricorn. January 13. How do I go about finding out if there is air in my chart?pixelpixieDo you know your birth time and place?pixelpixie www.astro.com Register, enter your data, and you will get a free chart, with interpretations, plus lots of special options.. such as transits, progressions, composite, etc...Then you will know what makes you you and can understand things better.bigfootThanks again! Just wish I could remember what time I was born. It was either 9:43 or 11:45, both in the am, which is just terrible for me. Night person. So, I'll have to get a copy of my birth certificate and find out.pixelpixieIt'll have to be long form, or youmay have to request it somewhere. Is there anyone dependable you can ask? There is most definately a difference in Ascendants with that time discrepancy... the rising sign determines your chart placements, so it is very important.. you can always imput each time, and see what suits you... study up on it ( everything except rising [ascendant]sign should be accurate, minus house placements.. but signs should be okay....possibly moon,as it is fast moving, but that is a long shot)Try it, see how you feel and what suits you, ask someone too, as rising sign is who we present to people upon first meeting... so others might see what you don't, being inside yourself, not objective. Then when you know for sure, you'll have conceptions about what the chart is all about.bigfootI've just input both times and saved the html files to my hard drive so I can look them over, but I'll have to find a copy of my birth certificate so I can have a more acurate chart. It's been a long while since I've tried any of this stuff. Seems like my spirituality was turned off for years, but I'm trying to become more positive. Thanks for all the help!
