T O P I C R E V I E WBluemoonWhat is a grandmother? (taken from papers written by a class of 8 year olds) A grandmother is a lady who has no little children of her own. She likes other peoples. A grandfather is a man grandmother. Grandmothers don't have to do anything except be there when we come to see them. They are so old they shouldn't play hard or run. It is good if they drive us to the store and have lots of quarters for us. When they take us for walks, they slow down past things like pretty leaves and caterpillars. They show us and talk to us about the color of the flowers and also don't step on "cracks." They don't say, "Hurry up." Usually grandmothers are fat, but not too fat to tie your shoes They wear glasses and funny underwear. They can take their teeth and gums out. Grandmothers don't have to be smart. They have to answer questions like "why isn't God married?" and "How come dogs chase cats?". When they read to us, they don't skip. They don't mind if we ask for the same story over again. Everybody should try to have a grandmother, especially if you don't have television, because they are the only grown ups who like to spend time with us. They know we should have snack-time before bedtime and they say prayers with us every time, and kiss us even when we've acted bad. maya-vGrandmas are angels who were sent to earth to guide little souls to a world full of magic, dreams and faerytales! Then they are taken away by God and you are left with sadness and a lot of beautiful memories to inspire you to keep going and guide other beautiful souls to that place of magic and love ... BluemoonNice words and photos, Maya! sweetlibraGrandmothers are God's gift especially to those kids who never grow up 26taurusThank you for that Bluemoon. I & miss you Grammy! maya-vI miss my gramps too T (she was a tough Cappy too - but so full of love and humor and a million faery tales!!!). So much so that even today, if I think of her, it makes me cry. She was a beautiful soul, and the end was painful, but she was surrounded by her children and I think she was happy to finally be with the man she loved sooooo much all her life.I was wondering if you have yet forgiven me and would like to be friends again. I really miss you and your sensible heartfelt posts and was hoping we could work through the small stuff to connect as real friends again.26taurusHi Maya, Don't sweat it. I got your email but I thought I'd reply here instead. Youre a sweet soul. There is nothing to forgive, no hard feelings. I wish you all the best. 26taurusAlso, I'm glad to hear your Gram was surrounded by family when she passed away. I was with my Grandmother when she passed away too. Very sad, but I'm glad I could be there with her when she finally did. She was an Aries BTW (not a Cap), and died of a brain aneurysm (Aries - head). She visited me in a dream about two months later. I miss her, but I know she is at peace now. maya-vThanks T ...You might've read this elsewhere, but when my grandpa died, an owl visited me and stayed on vigil at my window for a whole day! He was ultimately killed by the crows and that still makes me sad. Same for grandma, except this time it was a beautiful white dove. And yes, they did and still do visit me in my dreams, though not as frequently.I couldnt be with my grandma in the last moments, cause my son was young and I had to stay with him while everyone else visited her. Something strange happened on the day she passed away. My aunt, her youngest, was visiting from Canada and she had to fly the next day, she stayed the night with gramps and the next day she came home to get some rest. Her head had barely touched the pillow when she heard a voice in her head ... it was my gramsp saying goodbye and asking to see my son. She awoke with a start and at that instnat, my uncle called and told her it was over.I still miss her, I always will but I know in my heart that she is happy and at peace wherever she is, finally united with the son she lost years ago and the man she loved all her life. Thanks for sharing, T, its therapeutic to meet someone who understands. BluemoonI lost my father 4 years ago. We were very close. It took me several years to stop trying to call him on the phone. I would have to stop and remind my self he was gone. He is still a very big influence in my life. I miss you dad! marciaGrandma!I miss you! and send me some too please?
