T O P I C R E V I E WSolane StarBe aware of duty"To serve is beautiful, but only if it is done with joy and a whole heart."-- Pearl S. BuckMany of us have been taught to do our duty. What does this imply to you? For me, ‘doing my duty’ means doing something I really don’t want to do. My heart’s not in it, and so the energy for the act isn’t there. I have to force every move. Usually, there’s underlying resentment. When this is the scenario, tasks may get done but there’s no gift to the world. We do not truly serve the world if we give to others but neglect our own truth and our own needs. We need to give to ourselves as we give to others. IT’S NOT SELFISH TO LOOK AFTER OURSELVES -- IT’S ESSENTIAL!"Forget the resolutions. Forget control and discipline...too much work. Instead try experimenting. Go in search of something to fall in love with...something about yourself, your career, your spouse."-- Dale Dauten"Nothing truly valuable arises from ambition or from a mere sense of duty; it stems rather from love and devotion towards men and towards objective things."-- Albert EinsteinBrightStarHi Solane Star. Can i ask you a question. Are you happy with your life and with the poeple in your life right now ?Solane StarBrightStar, I'm very Happy with my life right now!!!And as far as others go, I have really caring, supportive, friends and family!!!Why you ask BrightStar???Thanks!!!juniperb quote:"To serve is beautiful, but only if it is done with joy and a whole heart." It stands alone! I personally believe our duty should be to ourselves first. The rest will fall into place. If I AM love and LIVE love, I can only GIVE love. So anything I give will be a joy. Maybe we can rewrite the dictionary's definition!DoUntoTerrificYou!DanceUntilTrulyYours-elf (or) Young Solane Star DervishHow can you be happy if you do what you do when your heart isn't in it? Me, I'd be miserable. If I were to "do my duty" and kill people though my heart wasn't into it, for example, I wouldn't be able to stand it. Natch, you might be using words very differently from how I use them. For example, I often clean up broken glass on the street, when I saw a nail sticking out at a gazebo in the park I went home and came back with a hammer to make sure it wouldn't stick anyone. I've stopped a buggy from crashing into a SUV, though I don't like SUVs (primarily from my experience getting around on a bike). I've acted as a library volunteer though I shouldn't have. You may say the above is doing my duty, but the way I see it, my heart is into it. It's my head that tells me to leave it alone. To me, duty is more like honor and the like. It's my duty to help my friends and not betray them, for example. At the same time, I only carry this duty as long as they carry out their duty to me (ie, they treat me right and honorably, too). Otherwise, it's not carrying out my duty but allowing myself to be exploited.SkyhawkBeautiful picture, Solane Star. Thanx.
