MoonWitch | my boyfriend's a tree-toucher. climbing a fallen tree. Nice walk down to the General Sherman tree - it was the walk back up that almost made our legs fall off. "This gargantuan sequoia, while neither the tallest nor the widest tree, is considered the largest living tree in the world because of its volume. It weighs approximately 2.7 million pounds, and it is believed to be around 2,100 years old. Its height is 274.9 feet, and its circumference at ground level is 102.6 feet. The diameter of this giant sequoia’s largest branch is 6.8 feet"

That black dot at the end of this fallen tree is my son squatting. "To give early visitors a sense of how large the giant sequoia trees really are, a roadway was cut into this fallen tree that visitors could drive their car onto. Due to rot in the wood, cars are no longer allowed to drive onto it, but it remains an interesting historical feature. Auto Log is located 0.9 miles from the General's Highway via the Crescent Meadow road." |
MoonWitch | Roots of a fallen tree. Climbing up Moro rock. "Moro Rock is a granite dome in Sequoia National Park, California, USA. It is located in the center of the park, at the head of Moro Creek, between Giant Forest and Crescent Meadow. A 400-step stairway, built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, is cut into and poured onto the rock, so that visitors can hike to the top. The stairway is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The view from the rock encompasses much of the Park, including the Great Western Divide." They have no problem leaving me behind. Panting. It was the altitude, you know. LOVE this picture of my boyfriend. He is so handsome.
