Ami Ann | Do you think this is true? Ami |
Writesomething | I dont know about men but I definitely fall thru the ears first. |
starkiss1 | It is so, so true. |
PeaceAngel | They do say that men are generally more visual creatures than women, so maybe. Some men fall in love through their stomachs. Taurus and Cancer come immediately to mind. |
MysticMelody | I actually Googled it because I wondered if any good writers ever touched on the subject. I remember reading about it in relation to the "men are visual" deal more than once. So, I didn't do any serious research, just opened the first 3 or so hits. Here's one: http://www.examiner.com/x-35525-Atlanta-Dating-Rules-Examiner~y2010m1d30-Men-fall-in-love-through-the-eyes |
cpn_edgar_winner | i dunno. personality makes someone attractive or not to me. i fall in love with the mind and creativity is a must! |
Ami Ann | I would rather have a disembodied head talking tender nothings to me than a great body saying nothing. Ami
|
Dervish | I think it's only true in the beginning, and also only as a general rule. |
mermaid26 | I was thinking the same Dervish, it is quite a generalization. Words for the wise, gentlemen & ladies...appearances are deceiving. Women are more verbal in general and use many more words in their daily communications. Let's not forget there's a little bit of man in every woman and vice versa. Truly, how many people are really balanced & whole? |
Ami Ann | quote: Truly, how many people are really balanced & whole?
Not me
|
teasel | From the article - quote: "I’ll leave you with this quote from Gabrielle Chanel that sums it all up: “I don’t understand how a woman can leave the house without fixing herself up a little—if only out of politeness. And then you never know, maybe that’s the day she has a date with destiny. And it’s best to be as pretty as possible for destiny.”
If you're destined to be with someone, shouldn't they be happy with who you are? And where's the advice for men? |
WinkAway | CPN.. quote: i dunno. personality makes someone attractive or not to me. i fall in love with the mind and creativity is a must!
I agree totally...
|
mermaid26 | Me neither Ami. I really found that out when I was put on HRT after surgery last year. I'm still trying to heal body, mind, and spirit. |
MysticMelody | teasle, yah that article turned me off too I will say that I hung out with a couple totally hot guys last summer but they were both drunks with nothing worthwhile to say and I just wasn't feeling it. The Scorpio reminded me of Owen Wilson (and I think Owen is WAY hot) and he even told me he "loved" me at one point (probably because he thought it would get me to sleep with him) but because he was a drunk he just seemed so STUPID and repugnant to me most of the time. I mean, I really tried and continue to try to talk to this guy and he has NOTHING to say of interest. About anything. We had one deep and emotional conversation in the cemetery where his loved one was buried and that conversation is what made me feel there was a chance with him but the alcohol just killed his brain... and whatever possibility there was for me to feel attracted to him.

MysticMelody | quote: A man falls in love through his eyes, a woman through her ears. Woodrow Wyatt (b. 1918), British journalist. To the Point, "The Ears Have It" (1981). Wyatt's reasoning, apropos of women, was that "what is said to them and what they believe about a man's status is usually more important than the superficiality of good looks."

MyVirgoMask | That would explain why many women tend to keep believing what they hear and thinking it's the first time they've ever heard it (short memory spans, present company included). |
Dervish | quote: I will say that I hung out with a couple totally hot guys last summer but they were both drunks with nothing worthwhile to say and I just wasn't feeling it
I'm reminded of a short scene I found: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGtIr4PZM0Y |
MyVirgoMask | Dervish ...yes, appropriate!
|
mermaid26 | Funny clip. My oldest daughter is just like Darlene...the boys are going to have to pass through a pretty tough test as she is one tough customer. Mental affinity is pretty darned important to me, too. Dorothy from Oz hung out with three dudes and she needed a wizard to fix them. Maybe the ultimate catch is a wizard. |
Glaucus | shrugs I'd say both for me the way a woman sounds can highly influence how I feel about her I really like the gentle, sweet voice that shows a great sensitivity in that person Of course, I've also been attracted to the sexy, womanly voice that sounds like she can be on a sex phone line. The former is more my type ,and that's how my voice is too. I have been told that I sound like I am 14 by a woman with the latter voice. I was 32 at the time. That was not a good way to make a first impression on the telephone. ------------------ Raymond Andrews, President,Executive Director of Developmental Neurodiversity Association Supporting the Neurodiversity Movement

Ami Ann | I think that if a man's words touch a woman's heart--his looks etc--mean little--in comparison. I don't know if a man needs to have the visual attraction but I don't --as a woman. I wonder what any men out there think? Ami |
mermaid26 | Just watched a special last night on PBS about Emotions. It stated that men are more visual, as at the primal level, they seek a mate suitable for procreating, the mission is passing on their genetics. It's the basic hard wiring, as we ARE a species of animal too, although hopefully the most sophisticated in the kingdom. When we witness the multitude of coupling behaviors in the animal kingdom we see the complexity and magnificence of nature's creations. |
Happy Dragon | *** I don't know if a man needs to have the visual attraction but .. *** it helps .. .. .. i.e. if the primal instinct is to mate ..i can figure the 'visual' bit for guys .. that makes physiological sense .. ( i.e. if the .. " Men Fall in Love through the Eyes--Woman through the Ears " .. ( .. be connected to our primal instincts ( wondering 'if' without asking lord google ) do male apes beat their chests when trying to impress the females ??? and if so .. are they 'saying' .. 'i'm powerful' .. ( and so can provide food . protection etc etc i.e loud thumping sound of male beating chest registers to females ears as .. healthy strong male ... i guess if he can ( insert whatever sound male apes make ) loudly .. that would indicate he's got a healthy set of lungs ** I wonder what any men out there think? ** they don't .. .. at least not while checking out females .. what passes for 'thinking' is an anomaly of that hard wiring between eyes and groin ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |

Got the short answer to a long question
