ElizabethO | I've always loved cuffs, and I've decided to start an online shop along with my little sweets shop. I'm trying to think of as small business ideas so I can be independent enough to not haven an office job... or well any "job". Anywho, I was thinking of making astrologically themed leather bands. Example for Taurus: Cuff http://etsy.me/A7fng1 Decor http://etsy.me/AplSRo More Decor http://etsy.me/AiVJ4p Links http://etsy.me/x58eHg This is just an example of what I want to do. What do you guys think? Any suggestions for the other signs? |
ElizabethO | My other idea was also burning an image of the zodiac symbol onto the leather itself, and decorating with associated lucky gemstones. I really love to mix earthy things like gemstones with wood and metal. |
T | Great idea! I bet they will sell really well I am also a big fan of bracelets (and other jewelry) and especially cuffs. I've got about 12 in process, made out of fabric scraps, felt and some with leather. Found some great snap-in buttons at my local fabric store too (easier than sewing a button hole, which i havent quite figured out how to do on my machine yet). Had some fun a few months back making pendants out of glass tiles similar to these: http://www.etsy.com/shop/CapturedStarlight Do you have a pyrography tool yet? I have four different ones ( that will burn wood, leather, paper) and found the best ones are the cheapo ones from the craft store (walmart sells them too). It's nice to have a couple of them so you don't have to wait for them to cool down before changing the tips. You can get a soldering iron from most hardware stores also, but I like the ones from the craft stores better. More tip options. Best of luck and let us know how you do! Would love to see some of your creations sometime! |
ElizabethO | Thank you. I'm super excited to get started. I still have to get all the supplies, but perhaps when I've gotten enough supplies to make a mass amount to start a store. It's all a matter of $$$. I'd love to incorporate stone, but not sure if it'll be too heavy. http://www.etsy.com/listing/75610249/petoskey-beach-stone-jewelry-supplies?ref=v1_other_2 |
ElizabethO | Also, I'm obsessed with this woman's store: http://www.etsy.com/shop/SleepyDogBeads And VERY cool constellation cuffs! http://www.etsy.com/listing/82108664/mens-leather-cuff-leo-constellation |
cathy | You sound very creative, they are good ideas. Good luck with it. |
anongrl10 | Fabulous idea!! I wish I had the daring mind. I have a million ideas but my artistic side was never supported so I have no clue if I'm good enough to invest on it. Besides, I always worry if a business will succeed esp. in times of recession. If you have the $$ for the materials, that sounds absolutely lovely to do. I especially love the constellation cuffs! The Taurus leather cuff is also very nice. I'd love to see the Sag symbol carved on leather but I am partial to thinner more delicate stuff.
