juniperb | I whole heartedly support retaining the stem cells from placenta... but to eat it?? Healthy or Icky?
quote: Speaking at a press junket before the show's season premiere, the actress told People magazine that she pops a dehydrated placenta capsule when she's feeling tired or blue. "Its not witch-crafty or anything, I suggest it to all moms!" Jones enthused. Since the 34 year-old single mom was able to return to the set about seven weeks after her son Xander was born, her controversial elixir may be working. There is little scientific evidence to show any benefits to eating placenta, but advocates say that it helps increase milk flow and ease post-partum depression. Speaking with the BBC, obstetrician Maggie Blott explained, "Animals eat their placenta to get nutrition--but when people are already well-nourished, there is no benefit, there is no reason to do it."

Frozen Queen | Umm, the pill popping sounds WAY better than what I was imagining so I guess cool :/ ------------------ “S|_UT ” is how we vilify a woman for exercising her right to say “YES”. “FRIENDZONE” is how we vilify a woman for exercising her right to say “NO”. |
hippichick | Gross..gross again... Animals do it cause they have no other resources for the awesome protien and nutrients the placenta has. Gross. Humans dont need to do this cause we are smart enough to get our essentials other places... We evolved away from the primordial eons ago. How many healthy babies have been raised with out eating placenta? Lots ewwww, gross |
hippichick | BTW my momma cat that gave birth just 2 1/2 weeks ago did not eat all the placentas, only a bite here and there... And these kittens are healthy as mules! |
teasel | It sounds like the glandular supplements they have out for both people and animals. Thyroid, for example. Gross, but apparently effective. |
juniperb | t, Congrats on baby furfaces. Animals also eat their placenta so no smell of a baby ie weakness remains. teasel, I much prefer my man made thyroid meds anyday. ------------------ Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it. ~Rumi~ |

Diana | Sounds gross but it also sounds not so gross since it's a pill. If it would make me have perfect skin and hair, I'd do it, I'm not gonna lie. |
teasel | I stopped eating hearts when I found out that were *real* hearts, when I was a kid. I'm surprised I didn't turn vegetarian on the spot. Always been more of a potatoes girl, without the meat. I can't swallow pills, so the only alternative would be tipping it into a yoghurt or something. Definitely gross. |
sunshine9 | My vote: I guess a pill is better than what I first imagined on reading the title, but even then.. I agree that humans in this day & age get nutrients elsewhere. We don't have to do as the animals do! |
hippichick | One of my most favirot movies of all time is~ "The Three Burials of Melquaides Estrada" Staring Dwight Yokum, January Jones and Tommy Lee Jones...(he is my brothers neighbor here in little ol SA) Will never be able to watch this movie again, without horrid mental pics, LOL!!! |
jesstar | i find it amusing that so many people find consuming a placenta "gross" . ..expecially if its in pill form and benificial to well being. i wish i would have had that option when i was a young mother...i was unaware...lol well, u r what u eat ------------------ "We'll go because it's Thursday,"he said,"and we'll go to wish everybody a Very Happy Thursday.Come on,Piglet" A. I have worked in the health care field for a long time. I have tasted the grossest things. This is not any more gross than many others.
