T | I'm going to help my neighbor build a website, blog, etsy ...... okay, I'm pretty much going to do it for her since she's not very knowledgable with computer tech stuff. And neither am I, but I know enough and I have built my own websites, blog, etsy in the past. I used webs.com for my website. It was pretty simple and easy to do, but certain features were annoying and troublesome. I'm interested in similar sites that offer built-in site builders/options - something that after I get her's up and running, she will be able to maintain on her own easily enough after I show her the basics and get the bulk of the webstie done and looking good. I'm looking for more options similar to http://www.webs.com/ ....but maybe better? Browsing now, but.... if you have a website, what did you use to build it? Or recommendations you have for building a website that is easy for novices to maintain. Thank you. |

libraschoice77 | ^^I used Intuit to build my cookie site, very easy to follow |
teasel | I was going to email you about something like this. An idea for you to get hosting for a year (for free, as far as I know), I have web space for a domain for eleven months left, and am trying to get dad to think of a business idea so that he can stop driving that van. |
T | I still have to return latest emails from you. What if you kept the domain for yourself....? |
T | Thanks Randall & libraschoice77. |
Yin | I have experience with: http://www.weebly.com/ and https://sites.google.com Both are fast and easy. Nice article with a couple more choices: http://www.pcworld.com/article/234814/diy_free_services_to_build_a_business_website.ht ml EDIT: Hi, miss T!
|
T | Yin hello!!! Miss you! Hope you are doing well. Weebly looks nice. I'm going to look into it more along with the others at that link. Thank you! |
Randall | Sometimes Google will sponsor the site a year for free, including a free domain name. Google "free Google website" and your state. They will use Intuit. It's the leader in site creation and in ease of use. No HTML skills needed. Hundreds of templates for just about any type of site you can thnk of. |
T | Thanks. It's funny because I saw that somewhere yesterday, but did not click on the link because I thought it was just another offer for a "free" site, which actually only means your site must host ads and you don't have a custom domain name - like you have to have "yoursite.theirsite.com". Only by upgrading (paying) do you get your own domain and ad-free site. I"ll be looking into it. A year free is a good deal. If after that the rate is reasonable, it sounds worth it. Thanks. |
Randall | No gimmicks. No banners or ads. It's $4.99 a month after the year--IF you have your own Domain. It gets a little more expensive if you use their free one. |
Randall | Sometimes, Network Solutions has a promotion where you get a domain for .99 the first year. You will want to transer after that to a cheaper place, though. |
T | I want to find what is easiest and best for her because she is not tech savvy at all and her computer is ancient and extremely slow. She is looking into getting a laptop at some point, but for now, I need to get her going with the least amount of hassle possible, so might just do with webs.com again, since i am familiar with it and you can upgrade and get your domain from them (less work than buying domain from somewhere else and having to connect it to the already created site - it's probably easy, but i've never done it before). I'm going to be building my own new one too and would rather go with a site that offers the most convenience. I did notice that Intuit offers their own smartphone credit card readers which is another thing I am looking into and need to get. Havent made up my mind yet and am still browsing to see what is out there. Thanks guys. |
T | Sometimes it's better to go with what is easier than to save a couple of dollars (imo). You have to even it out in your mind and figure out what is worth your time, or worth paying slightly more for convenience's sake. |
T | The going rate for an ad/banner-free site, with custom domain seems to be in the $6-$9 dollar per month range and I don't think that is bad at all. |
