Yin | Can't stay away from the topic of desserts it seems. I have a few very dear to my heart Indian desserts. Here they are: Kalakand Burfi Not sure what the difference between kalakand and burfi is. I just know that they taste slightly different. Carrot halwa Mango lassi Kheer Gulab jamun Mango shrikhand |
Cancer/Scorpio729 | I love love love kheer!! You've pretty much hit all of the most popular Indian desserts. |
Yin | Kheer is the only one on my list that I've actually made myself. I love it too. What other desserts do you know, Cancer/Scorpio? Can you make some of them? Do you know the difference between burfi and kalakand? |
Yin | This looks so easy! I'm making it! LOL. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHAFUdIOGKs |
charmainec | I love you for starting this thread, Yin! ------------------ quote: Remember, love can conquer the influences of the planets....It can even eliminate karma.

T | Damn those look delish!!! I'd never heard of them. Thanks for sharing. |
Yin | Awww, Charmie! T, if you like milk, paneer, and yogurt, you will love them! |
Cancer/Scorpio729 | You know I actually have no idea what kalakand is, never tried it and never heard of it...shameful considering I'm Indian. I think though, looking at pics of kalakand, it falls under the same category as burfi (same look and same-ish ingredients). I don't really know, where I come from everything is burfi lol. Oh I know many others! Gajrela (gajar ka halwa), soan papdi, firni, seviyan, rasgulla, kulfi falooda...so many I can't even think of all of them right now. Gajrela (gajar ka halwa): Made of gajar (carrots) and usually has almonds mixed in, it is delicious! Soan papdi: Made of layers of very thin...stuff, I don't know what it is But it falls apart in your hands if you squeeze it and melts in your mouth, also one of my favorites. Firni: Like smooth kheer. Seviyan: Vermicilli in a milky base, usually with raisins and almonds in there and served hot. Rasgulla: Like a cold, white, milky/watery gulab jamun. Kulfi falooda: Kulfi is just ice cream and falooda is the pink noodley stuff on it. |
