Barbiegirl19 | I read A LOT. The last few books that I've read had a lot to do with this and I found it very intriguing, fascinating quite frankly. I like diving into the darky, twisted, creepy places that no one else wants too. I think our minds are truly the greatest creation, just incredible. I enjoy digging and learning psychology. This phenomenon is one that I want to know everything there is to know from the people who've experienced it. What in your opinion, do you feel is the cause for captives to fall in love with their captor? Do you think the captives are merely this way to protect themselves from harm? What's your own opinion? I'm curious to hear what others think. |
Randall | I studied that in a class not too long ago. They don't have to necessarily fall in love with their captors, but they do begin to identify with them. It's very strange how the human mind can work! |
Ami Anne | I think it is like abused kids or even abused wives standing up for the abuser. The victim has to warp his own reality in order to survive. ------------------ Want To Ask Any Question About Bible Prophecy? Go For it. It is Free, of course. http://www.mychristianpsychic.com/

Right, I just find the falling for your captor to be the most fascinating. It's so twisted lol.

Yeah it's heart breaking. I'm the type of person to see all sides of a story and then go from there. I tend to put myself in other's shoes a lot and that is just one that I'm not sure how I would react. Would I want to just die or submit for the sake of living? Tough questions. |
Randall | Yeah, that's definitely twisted (to subvert it into love). |

Barbiegirl19 | I really like that idea, appleberry. That makes sooo much sense. |
Randall | That sounds like a good description of what is happening. |

Ami Anne | I am so sorry you went through that, Pixie. I can't imagine that pain and betrayal ------------------ Want To Ask Any Question About Bible Prophecy? Go For it. It is Free, of course. http://www.mychristianpsychic.com/

Barbiegirl19 | Wow, Pixie. I really don't know what to say. I know that you're older and have forgotten about it for the most part, but my heart really breaks for you. I can't even begin to imagine what any of that was like. All of the trauma that it caused, the pain and the betrayal. I have so many questions, but out of respect for you and your privacy, I'll keep them to myself. I'm proud of you. You are very strong and so brave for sharing this traumatic experience. I'm not sure I'd have handled it the way you did. |

PixieJane | Btw, I just had an insight on why many people think we live in a good and benevolent universe...Stockholm Syndrome! It's not exactly the same but I bet the process it's close. It's a cold universe in a world that can be cruel (at all aspects of nature, not just human) but by coming to see it as good, just as a victim of Stockholm Syndrome does of a captor, it ceases to be so frightening and one can even come to love it thinking it's all for one's own benefit. Of course life can be beautiful as well but many want to believe in the beautiful and overlook the viciousness of the cosmos or at least relegate it to a lesser position, typically one that serves a greater good and will one day no longer be a factor. |
PisceanDream | My heart clenched reading your story, Pixie. I have a sparse tear in my left eye that won't roll down my cheeks. I just want to say, your wisdom and insight and knowledge... Its breadth is truly remarkable. You have a wealth of stories and life experiences and perspectives that never cease to bewilder me. You are a very strong person, especially to have endured such trauma and come out so sharp-minded, intelligent, knowledgeable and agile. Thank you for being so brave, in all respects. Your willingness to share this says a lot about you. I hope that you have found your peace with these haunting memories and nightmares, and that you are truly finding it within yourself to embark upon The Way. |
I'm so cappy | Stockholm syndrome is what parents of difficult children experience. ------------------ I'm sooo happy! I mean, cappy. |

PisceanDream | Wow. That was very beautiful. And I mean it from a purely aesthetic and literary perspective. You're a wonderful storyteller, Pixie. I think I've told you this before. But it really is remarkable how you've had a soul cleansing dream. At least that's how I interpreted it. Do you still have dreams of this nature? I recall you having mentioned that your friend is a Daoist and that you were inclined towards it yourself, but you followed a rare and ancient (?) subsect of Japanese Buddhism. Can you remind me of its name? I guess I'm curious to ask why you have diverted from western philosophical discourse. I think you're definitely catching the drift and truth of spirit and soul, maybe an "Indra's net" spiritual and ontological rhetoric. I think the move away from Western discourse is exactly what soul needs. Would you generally agree with this? Thank you for sharing, once again. You have a powerful consciousness and unconsciousness. Your attunement to your dreams might well have been what saved you from deteriorating under the weight of such trauma. |
