T O P I C R E V I E WPeri quote:The Hierophant is known as the High Priest in some decks. He is the masculine counterpart to the High Priestess. He also known as Chiron, the Pope, and the Shaman. The crown he's wearing has three tiers to represent the three worlds. His right (power) hand is raised in benediction, the same hand the Magician has raised. In the Magician, he was taking raw power from the Universe and manifesting it on the material plane. In the Hierophant, that power is channelled through society. (As in the religions of the world). The triple sceptre is another symbol of his dominion over the three worlds. The crossed keys represent a balance between the conscious and subconscious minds. These are the keys that unlock the mysteries. The Hierophant is ruled by Taurus. http://www.biddytarot.com/major/hierophant.html Anybody see a possible connection between Taurus and Chiron, I am curious to know what others think about it.He is connected with Chiron because you can see keys there but I cannot see anything related to Taurus. And according to Astrology the neck/throat/voice is ruled by Taurus. The corners of the Hieropahnt's throne are symbols of Taurus as well. The Hierophant is also kind of a male version of the The High Priestess, again The Moon, which we have said is exalted in Taurus. Look at the simiarity in those two cards. The Hierophant's staff is a 3 tiered cross with a knob at the top, making 7 points. The 7th sphere on the Tree of Life is Netzach, which corresponds with the planet Venus, ruler of Taurus. Also the number 5 may be broken down into the combination of 2 and 3, which are the High Priestess (The Moon) and The Empress (Venus) respectively. Interesting, no?!? Yes, it can also be broken down into 1 (The Magician - Mercury) and 4 (The Emperor - Aries), and that symbolism is also apt, though a bit more esoteric and qabalistic than we need to explore at the moment. As an old fogey, I see no correspondence between The Hierophant and Chiron, but if that association rings a bell of Truth for you, by all means, go with that! It connects keter, the crown, to tipareth, beauty.on the cube of space, Gimel is below where Beit is above. Beit's number is 2 like the High Priestess. Again an above to below connection.
