The Mysteries
of the
Number Twelve
--By Linda Goodman On the East, three Gates; on the North, three Gates; on the South, three Gates; on the West, three Gates. And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
Revelations 21:13
There are 12 astrological signs, from Aries through Pisces. The Earth makes one orbit of the Sun through these signs in the same amount of time the Moon takes to orbit the Earth 12 times. The planet Jupiter is larger than all the other planets in our solar system combined, and Jupiter takes about 12 years to complete one orbit of the Sun.
All great spiritual leaders have had 12 followers. The 12 tribes of Israel were founded by the 12 sons of Jacob. The people of Greece worshipped 12 gods, and there were 12 princes of Ishmael. The great Osiris of Egypt had 12 followers—and the Aztec Quetzalcoatl had 12 disciples. There are 12 gods in the Brahman Zodiac.
King Arthur had 12 Knights of the Round Table. Buddha had 12 disciples. There were 12 altars of St. James and 12 divisions of Solomon’s Temple.
A Board of Directors is composed of 12 executives, and there are 12 men and women on a jury. There are 12 basic mineral salts in the homeopathic medicine. When gold is weighed, there are 12 ounces to the pound; likewise with the weighing of drugs. There are 12 inches in a foot. Most fascinating of all, the Earth’s minerals are also ruled by number 12. For example, all diamonds have 12 sides and must cut along these 12 axes.
As we know, Jesus chose 12 disciples (the single 3 again in his life…) As with all spiritual leaders and their followers, Jesus was 13th—or the Master. Each of the 12 apostles represents one of the 12 Sun Signs. The 13th is the Master, who has learned to combine the positive qualities of each of the 12 Sun Signs, and to conquer the negative traits of each.
(From Star Signs, Love Signs , and Sun Signs)
The Master combines the courage, wonder, and innocence of Aries with the strength of purpose, patience, and stability of Taurus, the versatility and mental alertness of Gemini, the imagination, tenderness, sensitivity and protectiveness of Cancer, the warmth, nobility, generosity, and love of Leo, the clarity of thought, courtesy, and exquisite discrimination of Virgo, the fairness and justice of Libra, the depth of knowledge, and the magical and mysterious power of Scorpio, the logic, honesty and idealism of Sagittarius, the endurance and wisdom of Capricorn, the prophetic vision and tolerance of Aquarius, and the humility, psychic comprehension, compassion and enlightenment of Pisces.
He has learned to cast away the rash, impulsive behavior and aggressiveness of Aries, the blind prejudice, lack of reason, and stubbornness of Taurus (which is only Taurus patience turned inside out), the irresponsibility, glibness and double-talk of Gemini, the fears and possessiveness of Cancer, the arrogance of Leo, the criticism, inferiority and hair-splitting of Virgo, the indecision and argumentativeness of Libra, the ruthlessness, and the cruel revenge and retaliation of Scorpio, the emotional confusion and blunt speech of Sagittarius, the coldness and ambition of Capricorn, the eccentricity and unpredictable behavior of Aquarius, and the evasiveness, timidity, and deception of Pisces. Do you see now why the number 13 (the Master) is not really “unlucky,” as most people mistakenly believe?

The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.- Robert Frost~
